market-determined? I thought a player's salary was "talent" determined. But I have no idea. I could care less about what novelty items or t-shirts are sold or cards traded... I just think the salary's paid to these pro athletes is unbelievably way too freaking high. |

I think the two, market and talent, are often, but not always, related in pro sports. Talent brings spectators and their money, or TV viewers and therefore advertisers. Sometimes talent is not what draws the crowds, it's the spectacle, the theatre (hockey fights, etc. - see Paul Newman in Slap Shot). |

Don, I fully agree. Miller Park is a great place to watch baseball, I caught the 4th of July game there in '08. However it doesn't have the atmosphere or history of Wrigley. I never got to the old Busch before they tore it down, hopefully I'll catch a game in the new one someday. |

i too went to Miller park, to watch Zambrano pitch a no hitter to the Astros...(Houston had a storm/flood so they played in a "neutral" location)...the place is like an appliance...nice, but no character...give me no big screens, no electronic score board, and the same field that babe ruth played in any day...

Still way over paid... and then some. Those teams should be heavily taxed so the players salaries aren't so astronomically high and the money would used to pay for ..... new Police, Fire and Rescue salary, bonuses, and equipment plus wounded warrior projects, and many other local good causes. |

Hey x we think you make too much money why dont you send Char some you need to be heavily taxed. She has been out of work for a long time, Stealing fruits of some ones labors and giving it to a (special group ) the leos fire etc is not an excuse to steal or tax somebody you jealous of! So if you think some one has too much its your right to take it. Hmm there are many in the world that think your a rich american and want what you have. Greed and Envy rears its head. Hiding evil in so called GOOD programs is still evil |

I hate Miller Park solely because three men died when they were putting it up. Grumples, you would have liked the old Busch Stadium. Not a bad seat in the house. We always got the general admission tickets and sat up on the top row, right next to all the arches. I was pretty bummed when they ripped it down. They took a piece of my childhood. |

I only see it this way for sports and entertainment field... not anywhere else. So.. if you find some huge oil field.. and hire a bunch of people to suck it out of the ground or go door-to-door selling vacumn cleaners and make a cazillion dollars ... good for you, you earned it. But sports can still be -as- glorified as it is now and players will play as good as they do now even if there was a huge tax on the teams and the players made less money. If they refused to play then screw them... they can go protest while being protected by newly hired Peace Officers who have brand new equipmen,t and then they can go visit the new Fire Dept with new Trucks and newly trained and hired firemen, traveling on the newly paved roads of course. (I guess maybe insisting on playing word games on airplanes like a little child might have something to do with my attitude) I only feel this way about the entertainment and sports industry,.. the players and "stars" not the workers behind or around them. |

I can't imagine how hard I would have to work to "earn" that kind on money.I'd have to single handedly replace 500 middle class working men............and still not be close unuf for a sniff ......... |

I don't think people have any grasp of how much time and effort the top sports pros and entertainers put into their work. I wouldn't do it. Then add all the baggage of being a "celebrity", no thank you. They can have their big money. Not worth it to me. |

Grumps, the Astros hired Cards VP Jeff Luhnow as their new GM. In my opinion Luhnow has been a key ingredient in the Cards' success. I wonder if this might be a set back for the Cards down the road? Sure can't hurt Houston, we've got nothing to lose. |

Your right Ken, the players shouldn't pay a higher tax rate ... they should just get paid less money. IMO there is no reason they wouldn't keep doing what they are doing. The corporations would then pay the higher tax or fee or to have a team in that city. Give bonuses to the police officers and fireman and paramedics and wounded warriors. |

You taxing your self when you tax corps it the way Lib prog demons trick you into envy. I own multiple corps WE COLLECT TAXES WE DONT PAY TAXES! comsumer pays for every thing Peroid or we are not in business. |

Politics or religion seem to lie under every single rock that is overturned - whether here or anywhere on the net. If you have any doubt, look at nearly every news post, every youtube... you name it, the political-and-religious pompous asses are poised and waiting. (and for the record, Char and I are about as far apart ideologically - politics and religion - as you can get) |

I had the thought a day or two ago, that since the demise of BMC and regular production of all our beloved Buell models ceased, we've lost one of the richest sources of conversation- and probably the ONLY one most all of us can agree on. That said, I understand the nature of being on the Quickboard is to allow most all subjects... it is truly just too bad that any discussion of things gravitates towards some shrill, predictable polarity. Back to Pujols- my only wish is that more super-wealthy athletes and celebrities would follow his example. |

I am really sick and tired that it isn't enough for some people to pollute the threads that actually are about religion and politics. I log on to see what other people are saying about Albert Pujols, the Cardinals, and baseball in general (since it is literally the only sport I follow besides the Olympics), and there it is: making remarks about how "so and so's" believe this and "so and so's" do that and I am right and you are wrong. It is inane and childish and downright stupid. Some people must have nothing better to do with thier time than to inject their negativity into every single conversation. Are we in friggin' grade school here? I swear I am beginning to think that some people must have nothing better to do than to search my name and follow me around from thread to thread to try and get a reaction. That is what a TROLL does and I am just really tired of it. Steve, you might find that you and I agree on more things politically than not. |

I was a pompous ass before becoming religious. Eleven years in the area and been to one Cards game in 2002, nice seats behind home plate a season ticket holder let us use. Albert is better off in LA when he has to become a DH. I yelled, " . . and stay out!" to him, but he didn't hear me. |

My Kid wants to burn his Pujols jerseys He feels betrayed Like others he needed to explain why he feels he has any right to any input in Pujols move Pujols has the obligation to do what is best for his family and career. Its very immature attitude to think you have the right to control some one else because YOU want him to Do what YOU want. Getting offended because the world is not what you want it to be is a sign of emotional immaturity or mental illness Throwing a temper tantrum and name calling is just another example of basic personality disorders. Sadly those seldom improve with mental health treatment. |
