Hey, Long Island Buellers! Just "discovered" a place that's been there for DECADES but finally got a chance to eat there for the first time this past Sunday. Cliff's Elbow Room in Jamesport NY, famous for their marinated steaks. Rkc00, ever been there? If not, you owe it to yourself. My "Yelp Review" here:

Okra is easy to explain - green garden slug with seeds.

Mike and I have very discerning tastes ........but, by the 3rd meal we eat in an evening we relax the standards

If Jaime recommends it ...... I'm game.

They are famous for their marinated steaks. Not the most convenient location (Jamesport, NY is out on the North Fork of Long Island) but it is a nice ride in good weather.

If you're going with a large group, I'd recommend phoning ahead for a table... the place was absolutely PACKED at 3:30 this past Sunday. By the time we finished dinner, there was already a line out the door.

I gotta say- OKRA is the bomb! Especially this past growing season- we put in one plant, and the damn thing grew to about 12-15'!!!

We had freshly picked okra almost anytime we wanted, never seen a plant with such a prolific output... extra bonus, okra is a relative of the hibiscus- every fruit was preceded by a beautiful white flower, so we knew (generally) where to look in about a week or less to get the next pod...

Next year, given the success with this one plant, we'll put in two- that should be plenty to use and to share...

Now, back on topic- going into winter, I appreciate this thread- I love the idea of planning a group ride for a day, with at least one major stop for grub... next year I vow to do some exploration in western NC to find some worthy eatin's...

Last Saturday nite they did a nice piece on the Riverview restaurant in Ashland City TN... that town is revered for catfish, I haven't been since I was a kid... great story about the rebuilding of the place after the Cumberland floods.

Plus- I'm SURE they have okra there! LET'S GO!!!
