have they said what killed him? I mean obviously the wreck, but what was it, was it something that happened after his helmet came off? Spinal injury from getting hit hit by two bikes in the back?
My thoughts go out to his friends, family, and fans
I follow MotoGP on twitter.I had the race on dvr also.Very rough to watch.Simoncelli was very entertaining to watch. This was posted a hour ago about injuries
that was one of the most disturbing crashes I've ever seen. When Rossi looked back I think he already new he was dead. I think Edwards would have run out on the track to help had he not been hurt himself. Really a sad day. Nothing Rossi or Edwards could do. But I feel bad for them as well as you know it's running over and over in their head. With any luck, and I'll bet he did, he died instantly and didn't suffer any pain. What a shame. He was going to be a force to be reckoned with, IMHO, but we'll never know now. Rest in peace Super Sic #58

Well usually a rider minus a helmet lying face down on a track, not moving that just got hammered by 2 bikes and you were riding one of them and you take the time to look back and see the guy there would be a pretty good indication something is seriously wrong. I believe deep down he knew the outcome was bad as I perceived by his posture on the bike on his ride back to the pits. Leave it up to you Blake to questions someones opinion on such a topic.
No. Marco had full HRC factory status this year and had just renewed his contract for 2012 with full factory support once again.
He was the most charismatic, controversial and talented of the new generation of MotoGP racers. His loss will be felt for a long long time to come inside the sport.
Looking at slow-mo footage, Collin's bike hit him in the back and Rossi's looked to have squarely hit his head. Strap or not I believe the result would have been the same; either hit was brutal in itself. There isn't a motorcycle helmet made that would help in that situation.
He was the most colorful guy on the grid and so young.
Any idea on how he got himself into that body position/situation
He had lost the front end and was trying to save it on his knee puck. I am positive he was gone almost instantly as Rossi's bike hit him right in the back of his neck at speed. With looking through the corner they probably never saw Sic coming across until he was right there. Truly a shame as he was so fun to watch.
Certainly my sympathy goes out to his family, but also to Edwards and Rossi. I know how I would feel about it, even knowing there wasn't anything I could do to avoid the collision.
In a frame by frame review it looked to me like Rossi's bike only ran over his arm.
No one is to blame, but helmet standards may deserve review. It's tough to say whether or not a better helmet retention system may have helped Marco survive. More information is needed. At present three points of trauma have been offered, head, neck, and chest, but it seems likely that only one would be truly fatal.
Badlionsfan, that is correct and what I stated. He lost the front end and was attempting to save it down on his knee puck. If you watch the video above you can see him tucked way down trying to save it on his knee. If you do not want to watch the video above I don't blame you as I kinda wish I hadn't.
RIP I got the news from a friend of mine yesterday morning while I was sitting in a treestand. I had the DVR set to record the race so I watched it last night when I got home. Kind of wish I hadn't.
