So, has anyone attempted to find out how much insurance would cost to put an 1190RS on the road yet? I'm sure it falls under the "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" category, but like I said, I'm curious. |

Mine runs about 275 a year but I also have 7 cars, 2 homes and 17 motorcycles insured thru american family so maybe they cut me a deal? |

Team_ruthless, What levels and types of coverage do you have on your 1190RS? Gieco quotes for a married MSF instructor with no incidents in my zip code:

I lied. I have no rs. But it felt really cool to read "your 1190rs" directed at me. |

I tried looking at Progressive's web quote thingy, but they didn't have an entry for E-B-R, and the "other" category wasn't very helpful. |

If I used a liter bike as a reference then it'd probably be about $20K per year through Progressive. Progressive must assume that it's a sure thing that I would wreck a new bike within the first 2years of ownership since last time I quoted insurance for a new liter-class bike (say an R1) it was nearly $5K/yr! That was in my late 20's, no tickets or wrecks, and owning my own home. Insurance for my CR was much more reasonable through Geico. But then the CR is probably classified as a "standard" If you wanted a rough estimate you might be able to get an online quote for a Ducati 1198R Corsa, RSV4R Factory, Bimota, or MV Agusta. Those are of similar performance and cost, at least close enough to get you in the ballpark. |

" When the 1125R came outI had one ordered, called my Nationwide agent about it, he told me it'd be 6k a year.....HALF WHAT THE DANG BIKE COST! He told me straight up that either a) they didnt want sportbikes cause they crashed so often b) if someone still chose them with a sportbike they would get so much money out of them that they'd (nationwide) for sure be covered money-wise I was 26 years old, no tickets in years Ridiculous |

I was in the same situation when I was shopping insurance for my X1 in 2000. I was with Allstate at the time and he said that they didn't cover motorcycles but for poops and snickers he'd look it up. I knew it was going to be bad when he winced when I told him the bike I had. It was going to be $3600 a year to insure, needless to say I went elsewhere. That was married, house and two cars already with them and no moving violations. Now they send me postcards wanting to insure my bike, times change. Sorry for the hijack, now I'm interested in what I could insure one for. |

I'd imagine it'd be pretty cheap if insured by one of the collector/ antique agencies. With only 100 of them out there I'm sure it'd qualify. |
