I wanted to see if there was any mention of it yesterday . . . but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Erik Buell and The Elves.
It was 2 years ago yesterday that Harley-Davidson emancipated some of the most amazing and gifted people I know.
Elves, like cats, continue to land on their feet in the most interesting places. Good people, with talent and hearts, seem to have good things happen to them.
Not the least of these is Erik Buell and a handful of amazing people who . . . . now the healthiest, happiest and most resolute i've ever seen them in all these years . . are doing absolutely amazing things.
The public will, in coming months, begin to get glimpses.
. . .traces it's roots to a pivotal moment in about 1989.
I'd tell you . . . .but a Harley-Davidson executive sent me an e-mail admonishing me for calling Buell employees Elves and telling me that I should never do so again lest I erode their self esteem.
By the time the e-mail arrived . . . folks around the world were doing it for me.
hmmm....Well now that Mr. Subliminal (aka Court) has announced Erik Buell Racing's B-day, i got a feeling that tomorrow or sometime very soon, we will be getting this announcement that we've been waiting for...hopefully
The little side stories Court likes to tease us with don't matter to me much. The bikes and triumphs of Erik Buell Racing are far more interesting. I'm looking forward to what's next.
We suspect the reason Court holds out is Erik may realize at some point how much trouble Court has caused him. That and the nasty statute of limitations issue
Truely I was angry and saddened about the forces that caused the closing of Buell American Motorcycles, but lately I think back about that day and it gives me great joy and brings a smile to my face.
I remember the puffball mushroom analogy that Erik gave at the "Last Ride" Best wishes past and present Elves! Live long and prosper!
I'm curious to see which one comes out first. Being that the Uly and XT were such big hits, I'm betting the AX. Though, I hope they're all released at the same time.
My wife told me I would have to get a divorce if I wanted a NEW bike. We'll see how the RX, SX and AX look!
Best thing that could've happened to Erik. He went as far as he could with h.d. took his knowledge and experience with him and gave is a new American company we are proud of!
