Oh, and for the record, I find O'Rielly an insufferable bully. So I don't watch him. I don't claim the fact that they let him have an opinion piece means the whole network shares his opinion.

And I don't understand how anyone could confuse his opinion pieces with hard news.

Frank,

>>> Shortly after the Columbine massacre, that tool O'Reilly went on about how music he didn't like is corrupting kids

Don't you think violent imagery in gangsta rap is a bad influence on kids?

I don't see how it cannot be. Some really heinous stuff there glorifying misogyny and violence.

But you are criticizing commentary, not news. The news starts at five and runs through seven o'clock in the East, Bret Baer, then Shepard Smith.

How is a video game business qualified for educational products? Seems a valid concern. Yet another gov't kickback?

Bill,

I aagree with your commentary on the downfall of journalism, but I'd add that it happened a LONG time ago. The emergence of Fox News and the Internet just finally exposed it.

Ann Coulter is another demonized by the leftists. They've yet to expose any real inaccuracy in her journalism. Caustic and controversial she can be, but her facts are accurate; they're just inconvenient for Progressives.

Check out her books. Very educational.

The authenticity of some of those supposed screen shots is doubtful.

Only if that's what you want to believe, sir. It's the FOX News way, after all.

You wouldn't be talking about CBS and Dan Rather, would you? I thought this was about Fox News.

Kowski,

You neglected to rebutt the "State of America" one.

None of those graphics indicates anything problematic integrity wise, just apparently a view you don't happen to like. Nothing dishonest there that I can see. So what is the point? You don't like Fox News channel?

Ok,we get that.

No i don't believe it is. Parents failing is bad for kids.

Before video games it was music, before music it was books. All excuses for the fact that most people are screwed up and some people are really screwed up.

Andy,
It's not an all or nothing issue. Poor parenting AND violent and immoral messages/ imagery being glorified in popular media are both problematic.

Fox News is despicable because of the dirty journalistic tactic of using the phrase "some people say" to push their propaganda. Blake, you have pointed out this vile practice before, why are you supporting Fox News so much? Here's an example:

Joe,

You're right; it is shady journalism to report new using such slimy tactics. But Joe, those were not news reports or even news shows. They are commentary and discussion Nor were the " some people say" remarks making any kind of disparaging or underhanded accusations, merely raising a point of discussion.

Joe,

Are you contending that FN is unique in employing that figure of speech? Some people might say you're not being fair or balanced.

I don't even have cable TV, just NetFlix, so no FN for me.

Some say I'm too wise for my own good. :d

I'm not contending that Fox News is unique in employing that figure of speech - all of the cable info-tainment networks are equally guilty. I don't have cable or satellite TV either - both are a waste of money and time, imo. I do have an antenna for football games and the local PBS stations (Ken Burns Prohibition was awesome). Netflix, on the other hand, is great. Just watched an awesome Norwegian movie on Netflix streaming last night called Trollhunter. Check it out if you have a chance.

I did years ago, but the crap that is being spewed forced me to turn it off.

TV is about manipulation, from agendas to selling products. If it didn't work, there would be no viewers and no commercials

+1, that is why I hate news channels in general, and stick to online news aggregators.

quote:

Due have to correct you on a point, Bill O'Reilly is commentary not news. To many people (on both sides of the fence) listen to the opinion/commentary shows and believe that what they are hearing is "News"

He is on a channel called Fox NEWS, he represents Fox. Even if he is or isn't discussing news, it does not make it ok to lie, spin, and ignore facts. He is a very irritable person, you should see some videos of him when he thinks the cameras aren't rolling.

If Fox wanted to be "Fair and Balanced", why don't they have anypony doing shows with a left or more center slant? Hell I think a show with Bill and some left wing nut would be good entertainment, something like a Siskel and Ebert.

quote:

There have been at least three journalism school and media studies, and in every one, Fox News beats them all for least biased coverage of the news.

Not from what I've seen in the past on their news segments. Then again, the competition ain't great either, so perhaps its like winning in the Special Olympics?

I'll catch up more later, this thread grew fast : )

Greta and Megyn are top notch smart lawyers. I watched Greta when she was over at CNN. Tough questions and tougher follow-up.

FNC asks tough questions, most of the time, unlike their counterparts at the other networks, who throw marshmallows when interviewing.

O'Reilly likes sleezy pretty girls and goes ga-ga every time they are on his set.

Shep is a tool.

Cavuto, too much interrupting. Wish he would let his guests get their thoughts out.

Fox and Friends is tele-prompted sound bites with some real news mixed in. Gretchen does have a nice shape though!

All in all, better news than CNN, HLN, and absolutely no contest with the totally left MSNBC. I gag when trying to listen to NPR and get pretty PO'ed that I help fund that drivel. UK Telegraph for int'l news in print.

I mostly get my financial info from CNBC Squawk Box and Squawk on the Street.

You anti's can't deny the deep bench Fox has in the pretty and smart category. And that is icing on the cake for us biker types that don't hide under our momma's or spouse's skirts

Frankly Froggy, you strike me as a latent BMW rider

More Lefties on the FN payroll:
Alan Colmes
Juan Williams.
Kirsten Powers.
Ben Stein.
Geraldo Rivera.

Then you have John Stossel, who is a Libertarian.

Dennis Miller is great on O'Reilly. Nice to see a Conservative comedian get work and thrive as Hollywood is truly infested with lunatics.

All in all, FN really is well rounded with a right of center slant. MSLSD is to the rail Left and is headed to the trashbin where it belongs.

The Fox Haters really do need to distinguish between the news organization and the commentary programs. Stay away from Hannity as you might throw your shoe through your tv. PS: I think Hannity is great. If Fox could get Mark Levin out of his bunker, they would be unstoppable in exposing the BS of LessThanZero.

Thanks for the hat tip about Trollhunter. I noticed it last night but dismissed it. I will give it a go.

I did good on Netflix. I bought at $35 and sold at $239. I am bummed though because I knew it was going to fall. I missed my opportunity to short at $210 and now it is at $117. D'oh! Don't try to catch a falling knife.

Kowski,

You won that point Kowski, so now I'm asking the relevance. There is none that I can see.

I think he's trying to make the point that the news they're focusing on is biased, which the screenshots do a nice job of showing. For example, if it was Obama's supporters saying "baby mama" or whatever it was, fine. But does that really need to be show cased as a lead story? All the news stations show news, they just don't show all of it; they choose the pieces they want to show.

Fox News was the first station to blend commentary with news without making a clear distinction. It's similar to talk radio, and it's great for ratings, because people want to have their own beliefs and views of the world reported as real news. How often have you read a study that aligns with what you believe and think to yourself, "Ha! I was right! I knew it all along!!"? You would continue to watch/read/listen to that source because you *like* that reinforcement. Now ask yourself how often you dismiss a study that goes against your beliefs. Of course you didn't like it. It produces cognitive dissonance, the internal conflict you go through when what you believe conflicts with evidence against that belief.

By reporting what people want to hear is how you get ratings, and ratings mean money. Murdoch and company knew this about people, and built on it. It's not much different from watching a weekly television show.

Hate or love Fox, they found a great business model, and it makes them lots of money. Just like any large corporation, the ethics needed to be bent a little to make it work, but you can't argue results.

Trollhunter is a movie to go into with low expectations (or maybe 3 shots of bourbon) and come out of nicely surprised.

The scenery is just mind bendingly beautiful, the culture difference is interesting just on its own, the characters are interesting, and the lager story is absurd but somehow down deep you want it to be plausible.

It's quirky and enjoyable. A good holloween monster movie, and fairly kid friendly.

Think of it as "the blair witch project" (which I found pretty annoying) meets "District 9" (which I thought was very clever).
