Hello, hoping maybe I can get some general directions. Saturday night I took a deer down and my bike as well. I've had a couple problems with the bike, bearings being the biggest one I faced, but overall, the thing still runs. I broke the upper fairing mount, broke the fairing a little, and managed to put a dent in the front wheel. I was wondering if there are kits available to change the look of the front on the 2003 xb9r? Or if someone has parts that they would be willing to sell. I'm looking for the front a rear wheels too. Maybe someone knows of a custom setup that's less than the oem wheels. I'm also in search of an ECM to usb cable. Borrow, buy? Thank you very much. Ryan

welcome to badweb.

sorry to hear about your run-in. glad to hear that you survived. i hope you are all healed up soon.

i'd source the bad-web classifieds, ebay, and craigslist for replacement parts. don't hold your breath, but go ahead and shoot of an e-mail to Erik Buell Racing if you feel so inclined.

the front fairing mount is magnesium, so in the mean time; JB weld would be your cheapest fix. or maybe drill and rivit together. but i wouldn't try to weld it. magnesuim is tought to weld, and it'd be even tougher to find someone who actually knows how to weld it.

for teh plastics; personally, i'm fond of drilling holes on either side of a cack, and ziptie-ing it together. use contrasting color zipties to add for a 'stiches' effect. ... and just in time for haloween!

ebay has several aftermarket 'street fighter' headlight kits that mount right to teh forks. i dunno where you'd stuff all the electronics (ECM, realys, fuses and whatnot, but the air box could hold them on top of/infront of the filter maybe?
since you have an 03, there is a hole in the frame on the left side you could use too. you'd have to cut holes in the inner air box to let air in thru, and thi would aslo let you hear some intake noise too

if the front rim is not too bent, you could try to 'true' it, but keep in mind that it is aluminum, and should not be 'worked' by a novice. post some pics, but youre probably better off replacing it.

any XB/1125 wheel will work/fit. the uly wheels are a little heavier because the lip is thicker(stronger) it's not meant for hitting deers, tho
i've heard of V-rodders using buell wheels, but i dunno if v-rod wheels are buell compatible. i'd look there, and see about others. one thing that is uniquie is that the rear buell wheels have very long axles. some places don't have wheel balancer machines with a shaft long enough to hold the wheel on.

the wheel bearings have been issue-prone throught the model years. there have been many recalls on them. the origional '03 orange sealed one are considered the worst. some say that improperly torquing the axle is the quickest way to ruin a set of bearings. (side-loading them) a torque wrench would be a good investment.

you can get the most recent PN#'d ones or there are a multitude of aftermarket/creamic ones available. but they are just bearings. nothing to special about them.
the 2010 3-bearing wheel is the "fix" but you can get by with just checking your bearings for wear, and replacing them as necesssary.

ebay also has ECMspy kits. cable, software and driver. or if you are electronically/technology inclined, you can make your own cable, dowlaod the software, and be re-mapping your ECM in under an hour.

and while youre throwing all this $ at your '03, go ahead and upgrade to the +04 belt drive system or a chain. ... if you havent allready
