I'll second Mr. Baf's sentiments.

Brum, did you say the "R" word?

By the way, great ride Sunday. I don't post here much - I was the one on the blast, and the one following Frog in the video Court posted.

Cabins sound good. Mark, do you remember where the cabins were that we stayed in are? They were decent.

Rich, that cabin was on the far side (sort of) of Sacandaga. There's good riding there, but I think something on/near the southern west shore of Lake George will make a better base of operations - more options, including Sacandaga.

It sounded like Steve had a place in mind already???

I don't want to offend anyone, but I think I'd prefer route sheets and go your own way over a group ride. The older I get, the less I enjoy riding in a group; especially if it's a large group. three or four people is O.K., but any more than that and I start to not enjoy the ride.
The idea of a weekend rally really is appealing, though.
How expensive do you think the cabins would be? I'm living on a pretty tight shoestring, right now and I have to squeeze every nickel until the buffalo shits and the Indian begs for mercy. I'll have to plan ahead for this.

Well, I don't really know the area. It was just a thought. Maybe we can find a large cabin with plenty of beds and floor space to keep the cost down. I'll bring the bacon!

Not sure about pricing. Rumor has it that one of our own here knows someone with cabins for rent. That's all I know right now. If we decide to do this I will make all the planning very public and transparent. I'll try to find out if camping is an option as well.

I'm with Crusty. When an event like this is planned well in advance there is no need to have a large parade ride unless that's what you want.

I am cool with the small group thing when we do rides no matter how big we usually break it up into groups of 4-5 anyway. different strokes and all.

Just thinking out loud, I'd say that the number of different routes will be dependant on the number of people attending - if 6 people show up, there's no sense in us having 10 routes planned out. I agree about the different strokes, though. There are a ton of things to see and do up there aside from riding - the Olympic Village in Lake Placid, a couple scenic highways up mountains, shoot over to Vermont and tour the Ben & Jerry's factory, or any amount of hiking and/or outdoorsy stuff you may be into if you don't feel like riding all day. Plus, some may be in the mood for serious mileage and others not so much. I'm sure we'll have a computer handy as well so people can map out their own routes the night before and write up their own route sheet. I think this approach is how they handle it for the rides down in Suches, no?

If we "know someone who knows someone" for cabins, great, but if it doesn't work out we'll be far from up the brown rivier. There are, literally, non-stop hotels, motels and cottages from Lake George Village to Bolton Landing. If we do this before Memorial Day, options will be overwhelmingly plentiful. There is also plenty of camping for those so inclined.

And just throwing it out there, we may be able to find cheaper accomodations in Queensbury, which is just a little south of the lake. Something to think about.

I stayed at the cottages (link below) with my girlfriend at this past Americade. We know the owners and one of the owners rides (Triumph Bonnie). Its a nice place and about 7minutes from the center of Lake George. You can check the website on cabin rates and see that with 4 people splitting the costs it is very reasonable. Most of the "cabins" are connected like a motel, some do stand alone. There is also a pit for night bon fires.

I will talk to them on availability and if we get a commitment on how many cabins we may need - a possible discount. The idea would be for everyone to head up & meet on Friday night - spend Saturday riding (as noted in previous posts there are tons of great options for rides/destinations; whether via group, route sheets, solo or small groups) - and if it works out for Sunday; have a partial route we all could take before everyone needs to split off to head home.

With the thought of late May (going by posts), just to get an idea of what may work - How would the weekend of May 18-20, 2012 look for a time to do this?

We do have time to work on this a get things organized, but it's always better to get a head start.

Looks like a nice place - if we could get that house and stuff 10 people in there the price would be just right.

I'm not above putting an inflatable mattress on the floor.
