Just got my first free issue of Motorcyclists in the mail yesterday and saw the page titles "breakfast with Erik" (or maybe its breakfast with Buell, whatever)

Was anyone else disappointed by this article?

I was hoping it'd speak of the event, interesting things said etc etc
Instead it spoke of what the guy ordered for breakfast, how he wouldnt sign an american flag etc etc

Was just a little let down that there was an article with that title and yet extremely little on the subject.

And if this topic has already been discussed on here, apologies, I did not see it. I havent spent much time on this site (or others) lately

It was a horrible waste of print. This was something that this yahoo should have been putting on his blog for writers talking about their time on the road getting a story. It was, in no means, an article about motorcycles or Erik for that matter.

No wonder we got those Motorcyclist subscriptions for free. On a similar note, I got a pre-bill offer to extend my subscription 2 years rather than just one.

Had the exact same feelings. I saw the title of the article and was excited to give it a read. Upon finishing the article I was ready to throw the magazine away. I do believe one statement the writer made was that if Erik took more interest in him than he would take more in Erik. What kind of statement is that!! Good thing it was a free subscription. The rest of the magazine didn't really impress me either. I did just receive the October issue that had a decent review of the Motus touring bike but again the rest of the magazine did nothing for me.

I have to agree that was one poor example of journalism. The part about Erik paying more attention was really bad, maybe he should pay more attention to Erik because it is his job. I will probably not pony up the money for a subscription.

I've been reading that issue for the past several days. Other than the picture I first saw, and the first thought, "Cool! Another article about Erik and E+B+R"... the fact that the byliner got paid decent $$$ for that piece of crap and I wasted my time reading it just chaps me.

I spent the last 6 months of 2009 writing a "cruiser" column for a local rag, Handlebars Magazine, until it was mothballed due to poor revenues... I always managed to put up something I thought was decent...

Now, I did appreciate the Tri-Glide review (seriously- dude got some great zingers in there), the 2-up piece about the Victory cruiser, especially the tribute to Gary Nixon.

I didn't much care about the cover comparo story about the Diavel and V-Max, but the other 85-90% of the pieces written were quite good! Parker, Code, Gross all did well. I was especially intrigued by the Derringer...

Just re-read the "offending" piece- the number of tangents taken may be off-putting. Not a great piece, not all that bad. Remember, Buell is now on the board of directors for the AMA- THAT is the big deal, not really referenced, in this current MC piece.

Lighten up, all- yours truly included.

I had breakfast with Erik on the 1125R launch.
We talked about family and he had eggs.

Invoice is in the mail.

Actually I remarked to my wife what a complete POS that entire issue was just based on the cover.

2012 Harley Switchback - Yea. Parts bin bike!
Victory Cross Country Tour - Yawn.
Grudge Match, Ducati Diavel vs. Star V-Max - Like watching two fat guys fighting over a Twinkie
Left Coast Tour - Yawn
Going Gently, Jack Lewis on Three Wheels - "Where to stash that colostomy bag"
Sturgis Virgins - Barf, the last place on the planet I EVER want to be

I hadn't even bothered to open it yet.

Opened it and read the article. WTF?

"it was more like a vary large TWEET."
If that is what twitter is like then it makes me even happier I've never spent a single second on that website or tweets or any of that garbage.

"Sturgis Virgins - Barf, the last place on the planet I EVER want to be "
You should give it a chance, really awesome place, gorgeous area out there.

Says the Harley cheerleader.

Off season, sure, outstanding riding and sites to see. All ruined during bike week as you are forced to navigate in parade duty around the countryside among the performance impaired making up for it with their straight pipes and ape-hangers.

I have a Switchback in the shed right now.
Pretty good bike actually, 103 cube engine is the best in a Dyna yet.
I think looks quite attractive and has some versatility with the tourer/cruiser thing.
I run it with the screen off and hard bags on.
It actually should sell pretty well.

Also of interest would be the V-max Versus Diavel.
Apparently the Diavel is faster over the standing quarter.
I haven't ridden one, but that must make it 'awesome' quick.

my only source of moto news is hell for leather . com

great writing, lots of variety, breaking news and they seem to be pretty big BUELL supporters.

couple of weeks ago they had a specs comparison with ducati's new 1199 versus everyone else and summed it up with "the bike sounds pretty epic, unless you compare it to an american made superbike"

love it

My opinion of Motorcyclist is not very high, and hasn't been since they hired a Honda employee (Mitch Boehm)to be the managing editor. They used every opportunity to slam Buells through the '90s; and for most of the past decade, as well.
As far as Sturgis goes; I've never attended the Rally, and have no desire to; but the roads and scenery in the area are spectacular. If you just don't go during the first two weeks in August, you'll absolutely love the Black Hills and the surrounding area. Terri and I were amazed by the raw beauty of the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and the Needles Highway.
Don't let a bunch of Sheep keep you away from seeing an area that Teddy Roosevelt was enraptured by. You're missing something.

ah damn Blake, I didnt know you were such the expert on it

Yeah, the strip and being IN Sturgis it is very packed. But youre talking about a huge amount of land in the surrounding areas, its not like it is packed everywhere you go.
But you know that, youve been several times, right?

And if "harley cheerleader" means "loves the area" then sure, label me that. Just shows your ignorance, and its not the first time youve shown that side

Also, I find it amusing that its Harley Harley Harley when many of you think of Sturgis. Ignoring the fact that ExBxR had a bike on display as well as many other manufacturers having items on display.

Just got another issue in the mail today. I haven't cracked it open yet but the cover is MUCH better. Cover is the Motus with V-Strom and couple of luxury tourers in the BMW K1600GTL and Goldwing.

Lets hope the content is better!

they held up their decision on naming the new 1190 the best superbike.

pure entertainment in that issue. the cut some zingers to some of the cruisers and three wheelers. hd bike was boring, Huh?

I was surprised about the ducati. way down on power as claimed by ducati.

If the ducati had as much hp as promoted, it would have had they yamaha.

aaron franks is pretty good. he was at bonneville, and was super impressed with the new Erik Buell Racing bike. he was riding the bike for big Sid at bonneville...

Just finished the 'article' - What the hell was that supposed to be? Nothing about the motorcycle and hardly anything about Buell or Erik Buell Racing. How does garbage like this string of thoughts about food make it into a motorcycle magazine. I definitely have decided against paying $10 for a years worth of that.

Motorcyclist deemed EB motorcyclist of the year didn't they? I know in the Oct issue it has a picture of Erik receiving an award of some sort.

Someone should write in about it - sometimes a magazine will print a letter of criticism if it's clever enough.

I had a friend some years back who wrote into a Pontiac magazine (he a major GTO fan) complaining about one of the articles, and asked that if future issues were going to continue to be as terrible if they wouldn't mind making the pages softer and more absorbent.

They printed it!
