...once again stupidity reigns supreme and forces cancellation of a very popular event around here(that was to generate quite alot of revenue for the area)due to rival stupidness......

Shooting at Nugget in Sparks; 1 Biker Dead

Posted: 1:33 am PDT September 24, 2011
Updated: 5:20 pm PDT September 24, 2011

4:40PM Police are now confirming members of the Hell's Angels and Vagos motorcycle clubs were involved in the shooting at John Ascuaga's Nugget casino earlier this morning.

The victim that was killed was a Hell's Angels member. The two injured were members of the Vagos. Police say their injuries are non-life-threatening.

No casino employees or guests were hurt.

So far One Hell's Angels member has been arrested, but police aren't revealing if he was the shooter.

Renown Regional Medical Center was put on lockdown earlier today after members of the Vagos motorcycle gang showed up at the hospital.

As a result of the shooting and events, Sparks Authorities have canceled Street Vibrations at Sparks. The city of Sparks released the following:

In light of a shooting involving rival members of motorcycle clubs at a Spark Casino Friday night, and a subsequent drive-by shooting on Victorian Avenue in Sparks this morning, a state-of-emergency has been declared by the City. It is expected the Governor will also declare a state-of-emergency on behalf of the City of Sparks. Pursuant to the police powers vested in the City of Sparks, the Street Vibrations motorcycle event in Sparks will be cancelled for the remainder of the weekend.

“The safety and security of the public is our number one priority,” said Sparks Mayor Geno Martini.

Sparks Police will hold a press conference tonight at 6PM.

Meanwhile in Reno, the Reno Police Department has developed a strategy to increase staffing levels at venues throughout the community as the Street Vibrations special event continues.

RPD is coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure measures are taken to protect the public in the wake of the shooting in Sparks.

Local law enforcement is working with federal agencies in a coordinated effort, including increased patrol, tactical teams and undercover officers.

I rode up to Street Vibrations today and I didn't hear anything about this until I got home. We didn't stop in Sparks though. We just went to Reno and Virginia City

whats more ominous isnt that it was cancelled after ONE shooting and farcus.... its that the state and FEDERAL agencies are working in Task Force in a declared state of 'emergency' targetting motorcyclists (surely they will start with HA and Vagos.... how long until we are next ?)

A long time.
They're going to focus on the outlaw gangs who shoot at each other, and not the general riding public, who like to spend lots of money to the enrichment of the local coffers.

..the reason why they cancelled the event was due to who was involved in the shooting(retaliation),and the safety of the citizens and the other participants. The police chief even said in the news conference last night that not to judge all the other bikers due to the events that happened earlier(i thought that was good on his part)with the HA's and the V's.

..by the way,you should hear them making the pilgrimage home this morning....sounds like a continuous freight train going outbound on 395 south from Carson City(live about less that an 1/8th mile from 395 on the south side of town)..can see it as well living on a slight hill...looking south.

A shooting then another drive-by shooting in reprisal.

The declaration of emergency just gives them more options than they'd normally have (such as closing businesses under the emergency order, moving people out of town... that sorta stuff)

Idiots like the Hell's Angels and Vagos, knee-dragging street racers, and other groups openly doing illegal acts will bring down the law on the rest of us since they piss off so many taxpaying voters who PARTICIPATE in the political processes.

These idiots have been at it for some time.

About a year ago they were shooting it out about a mile from my house.

This same crap has all but ruined the Laughlin River Run. Now the cops outnumber the spectators. Heaven forbid someone might expose a bit of booby. Taking a ride to Oatman requires running the gauntlet of dozens of LEO's behind nearly every rise in the road waiting for you to go 26 mph instead of 25 so they can go in for the kill.

I never understood the whole stupid gang fighting crap.
If they're such badasses, why don't they all ride out into the middle of nowhere in death valley and just let each other have it?
No one would get in trouble with the law, no bystanders injured, buzzards get free breakfast.

Nate, you pretty much described the plot of "Hell Ride"... which was supposed to be a modern tribute to old biker exploitation movies (and did a reasonably entertaining job of doing so).

I rode up to Reno and then to Sparks on Saturday and it looked all normal. The event was still going on. We even went into the Nugget and everyone was busy throwing away their money in the slots. Then we got rained on and went down to Carson Harley. They whole thing was stupid and not my cup of soup. I'll pass next time.
