It was interesting to watch a few minutes of the testimony yesterday . . . the Bush administration (I'm not inferring a bit of credit to Bush for this) summarily rejected the loan request.

Within 6 days of the Obama administration taking office the guy who'd backed the company AND Obama was IN THE WHITE HOUSE getting it revived.

20 trips later, 3 the week of approval . . .he had the $535,000,000 of federal stimulus funds to back up (be mindful that the federal money just kept the Obama fund raiser and a group of folks who made a poor investment from losing their OWN money)the investors.

The ship was sinking, the investors knew it, the CBO (who recommended against it) knew it and the folks, apparently, in the prior administration knew it.

This was not "bad business judgment" this was a felony. Wall Street's shenanigans pale in comparison.

More interesting to watch yesterday and see that no one . . not ONE PERSON is responsible for how $535,000,000 was spent.

The most interesting part, to me, is not the crime but the fact that those we trust to lead and to be custodians of our money think this is “normal”.

Withholding a Conservative vote in California is not the same thing as withholding it in say, Ohio. My vote is meaningless in this crazy state. That is why the candidates rarely visit California during the campaign because the lock is already in.

Gotta love Obama. He spews out that he is non-political in trying to get his latest American Unemployment Bill passed and then travels to five 2012 battleground states to hoodwink the people.

Is it possible that Solyndra can lead to an impeachment? I, too, was thinking Chicago crime boss when I heard of this HALF BILLION dollar shakedown of the American taxpayer. Solyndragate might have legs and can persist deep into the 2012 election cycle.

The American Jew is waking up to the fact that Obama hates Israel and is doing everything in his power to destroy the ONLY ray of sunshine in the MidEast.
This guy has got to go.

The American voter was hoodwinked by this incompetent jerk in 2008 and it is time to correct this awful mistake.

I am wondering the same thing. I don't have enough facts yet and will, accordingly, withhold an opinion.

But the F.B.I. doesn't conduct raids as a result of "poor business judgment" or bad luck.

It's certainly going to be interesting.

It **appears** some folks had a very strong arm put on them to do some things they considered very poor judgment in order to support the date of the press conference and appearance at the factory.

It was stupid by any measure.

Criminal is yet to be determined.

The only thing that is certain is that the major Obama supporter cut the deal of a lifetime for himself.

Impeachment is very unlikely no matter what the crime. The House indicts the president but the Senate holds the trial. I don't see Harry Reid and the rest of the democratic majority going for that.

Even though Obama has lost a lot of public support, impeachment hearings will garner sympathy for him and those making the accusations will be the ones to suffer at the polls.

A better bet would be to time the Solyndra investigations to reach a conclusion this time next year.

As long as the politicians and the complicit media doesn't let this story die, then the truth will eventually come out.

Interesting that Obama rode into town with six shooters blazing over this Solyndra business and at the same time making Van Jones, a Marxist, his green energy czar.

Even more interesting is that no one here is defending their Fallen Messiah. Even if impeached, his ego is so great that he will most likely continue his re-erection bid, locking out Hillary.

I don't know that the timing can be controlled or that it should be. I just hope the investigation doesn't get snuffed out.

Solyndra should be one of many political hammers used to bludgeon BO out of office in 2012. Failing that keep the impeachment powder dry until after the election. That should be a last resort (if it's even warranted by this). Keep in mind what impeachment leaves us with for a President.

What suprised me was how FAST the FBI was in "raid mode" at Soylndra. Smells like cover up to me... Perhaps not a total "bad movie" type coverup, but certainly administration officials moving heaven and earth to make sure they have every advantage when the truth starts dribbling out.

Did Obama's partners at the NYT start writing the "it was the other guy" story yet? Or are they still busy with the "no, really, Obama *loves* Isreal" story?

Did they not know about China when they gave out the cash? This is the same sort of excuse for the stimulus not keeping unemployment under 8%. "We just didn't understand how bad things were". This sort of excuse is getting pretty threadbare!

Did they not know about China when they gave out the cash?

I'm sure they heard of China but they were making a unique product unlike the typical flat panel you're used to seeing. I'm sure they thought they had an edge.

Perhaps their demise was brought on by getting too big, too fast. It could very easily be that China is dumping their product in order to force out the competition as Solyndra is not the only US manufacturer of solar arrays to get clobbered.

I can also see how the Pres got caught up in the wow factor, seeing the robotics and all, when he visited the plant. But it all goes back to letting businessmen, and not the govt, run business. If Solyndra couldn't raise capital through normal means, then it should have raised a red flag (it did in the Bush admin). Obama is so focused on being green that he overlooks the real life facts on finance (that and he really has no perspective, having not even run a lemonade stand).

That's the vanilla version. I'm sure the FBI will uncover some neat stuff.

Exactly Sifo. There is probably a legitimate beef about unequal playing fields... but that beef existed before we choose to send $500m down a rat hole. If there was a free trade and currency manipulation problem (and clearly there is), we should be addressing that by addressing it, not by taking money from working people to make Democratic donors and supporters rich for doing nothing.

And worse yet, look at how this played out at the end of the day:

1) Problem: Chinese government is subsidizing their solar cell manufacturing, and maintaining little to no labor or environmental controls, and manipulating the currency, making it impossible for US firms to compete.

2) Solution: Piss away $500M to a big democratic donor, who will take the money for God knows what, then take the remainder of his company and move manufacturing to China.

Looks like the GE model...

Hard to see the white house as anything other than either really stupid, or really corrupt. And they already told us he wasn't stupid.

What I find interesting is the fact that there will ALWAYS be a group of people at the top with large buckets of money.

The difference is that under a free market model, the likelihood is much greater that the bucket of money would be from earned and legal means vs. under a progressive system, that bucket of money would come through confiscation and redistribution.

I don't believe anyone believes that Bill Gates or Warren Buffet received their wealth through having it confiscated from working people and given to them through questionable means.

My guess is that like Franklin Raines the CEO of Solyndria and the shareholders will skate unprosecuted with millions of confiscated funds.

Im not reading all the posts here, but I wanted to add something:
Yesterdy BO was in NC and giving a speech, it was being broadcast live on several local news channels.
My friend (and former, hopefully soon returning, Buell riding buddy) and me were talking about his speech - he kept talking like he was running for office
He would say things like 'the time is now..' and then talk about unemployment or whatever it was at that moment.
Yeah.....the time is now since you didnt start doing things 2.5 years ago.

I am sorry, but less talk and more rock. Quit talking about it and DO IT.

More and more it seems like certain government entities, media, corporations and special interest groups are pitting good people with good hearts at opposite ends of the political spectrum against each other in a game for the most control to rip us all off and have us live in servitude to them. Then they throw us a couple bones while squandering trillions while asking for more.

Going back to the "President Zero" origins of this thread, I thought this news story was quite funny:

congressman-beats-obama-american-jobs-act

The gist of the story is that the "well intentioned" president, nor any Dem's in the House, have submitted a bill named "The American Jobs Act" even though the pres keeps waving a stack o papers around like it's an actual bill, so a Republican did, and it's only 2 pages long compared to BHO's 150+ page supposed bill.

Obama and Jobs: Why I Don't Believe Him Anymore

Quick article link

quote:

Listening to Obama talk about jobs and shared prosperity yesterday reminded me that we are back in campaign mode and Barack Obama has started doing again what he does best – play the part of a progressive. He's good at it. It sounds like he has a natural affinity for union workers and ordinary people when he makes these speeches. But his policies are crafted by representatives of corporate/financial America, who happen to entirely make up his inner circle.

I just don't believe this guy anymore, and it's become almost painful to listen to him.

Farhen "Listening to Obama talk about jobs and shared prosperity yesterday reminded me that we are back in campaign mode"
From your link - thats exactly what I was talking about!
It really does sound like he did back in 08 and trying to get into the White House.
The problem with that is that everything he says is said in a way like 'the time is now, we need to make a change' etc (which we heard 3 years ago), but he is in the White House, he's in a more powerful postition and has more authority to get some of this stuff moving.

I'll say it again:

LESS TALK, MORE ROCK

The link to the Rolling Stone blog was a disgusting bleeding heart liberal screed. The blogger bleats that Obama doesn't spend enough time with Richard Trumpka. It is disingenuous at best as he will still vote for Obama.

Hybrid, what exactly are you trying to say? Obama has gotten more done than most Presidents and has spent more money than all of them combined. Do you really want him to do more?
