Good gear is important but ANY gear is better than no gear. Kitted out mine comes in around $900.00. Short, hot rides it's nearer $600.00.
My wife will never quibble about the cost of gear/safety equipment for me & my bikes.

D you and me both! i've had to wait for sales etc to be able to get fully suited. but now that i am i wonder what else i could have done without to get this way sooner. i can't tell you how much better i feel suited up for the task at hand. it's a hodge podge with no 2 pieces from same company and the jacket pants combo i took to local leather shop to get the ability to 3/4 zip them at the waste.

none the less i am now properly suited and feel really really weird getting on the bike w/o the gear. anymore basically i take the jeep if i don't feel like suiting up.

just for reference gloves can be cheap, mine weren't i have a pair of icon ti-max full gauntlets i bought in 2004 still wearing them now...

Too bad our Buells don't crash as well.

flipped my 9 end for end for end at about 70. picked it up and rode it home. $600 bucks and good to go.

i am also amazed still when i see people riding in "their gear". just had a friend of my cousin come in and buy a new wideglide from us. first hd. and i think first bike in many years. showed up to finalize it and ride it the hour back home...

now keep in mind that the temp had dropped and it had been raining all day and was still raining... so he shows up in a button up hawaiian type shirt, shorts and flip flops. WTF?!

he did buy a nice new leather coat while he was here though so i supose riding home in the pouring rain in a new leather coat, shorts and flip flops wasnt so bad. did i mention he had goggles? because he didnt...

as far as im concerned people can wear what ever the hell they want, but sometimes i just think to myself, REALLY?!

Too bad they didn't have their vests on like the rider in front of them. He's ready for whatever comes his tough guy way for sure !

Even if it was Chuck Norris he wouldn't look tough sliding down the road with no gear on.

I'm right there with you No_Rice, UNTIL what they wear or don't wear affects me or my family. Passed a guy the other day on a back country road just flogging the tar out of it, he had just come out of a curve so he was slow enough that I could see him well and he had on no eye protection whatsoever, which I think is law in KY. anyway you could see his eyes watering so bad it was running down the side of his face. I know, we can coulda; shoulda; what if it to death but come on, a little common sense can go a long way.

Notice the rider in those pics checks to see how the bike is, but not how is passenger is?

If Chuck Norris slides down the road with no gear on, the road gets "Chuck Norris rash".

Bwahahaha!

Those opening pics are scary, and perfect for justifying ATGATT.

When I started riding my Dad was adamant about good gloves. I always remember his comment "skin grafts hurt".
I've always done ATGATT, with good gear, with the exception of wearing jeans a lot of the time, especially for commuting. A new pair of Icon jeans turned up yesterday in the mail and I've got another pair on the way so I'll finally have that covered. I'm looking into knee armor to go under them too.

"not usually your typical bueller attire. "

We can have our opinions, but this one isnt completely true - I've seen quite a few Buell riders in similar attire. Even saw some people from BadWeb like that.
Or hell, that picture youre talking about - two buells, both in Tees.

Now, 'not your usual BadWeb attire'....Yeah, I can follow you on that one.

ANd the guy missing the leg - good that he's keeping on 2 wheels, that is awesome

Not to derail the thread but the amputee on the dragon reminded me of this.

The opening post is a good example of why gloves are a very important part of your gear. For some reason I've noticed women have the hardest time accepting this. Ashley didn't like wearing gloves, but I think she changed her mind after taking a tiny little spill coming out of the drive way and grinding her palms on the road.

Judging by the pics and how not very far the bike traveled they were going an estimated 12 mph.

That was my first thought as well. The bike slid, what, about 8-10 feet? Probably lost it because the bike wasn't going fast enough to stay upright. I bet he's tripped harder trying to get to the buffet before the crab legs were gone.

(I'm totally exaggerating, of course)

This is a picture of my hand after I crashed in April and I did not have gloves on. I do wear them now! And Thank God I had the rest of my gear on or I hesitate to say what shape I would be in today. 4 months have passed and my hand is still really tender to the touch. Carol

This is the topside.....the cops said I slide 200 ft on the interstate facedown after I rear ended Jerry, and this is where I got the most injuries. ATGATT is not just a word! Wish I had listened to the whole word and not just part of it. : )

My Buell flipped over every surface after a ~50mph highside on the track. Took all of $400 to fix. There's still a scratch on a top corner of the triple tree as proof.

People look at me odd as I am fully armored up daily.
