If you have *any* of the following:

1) TV
2) Cell Phone
3) Game Console
4) Home Internet
5) Air Conditioning

You shouldn't be allowed to claim poverty. Sorry. They are all things I intentionally gave up at different points in my life because I couldn't afford them.

Heck, I should add "car" to that list. You can choose a job and a place and a lifestyle that doesn't need one.

Ok, social engineering.
You want it less pleasant to be on the dole than working. Makes sense.

I'm sure we can come up with ideas that will be loudly condemned as barbaric by the ACLU.

As far as hair, blood, etc. No, I don't expect the State to take body parts, ( though they do in certain other countries... Also see below Larry Niven's stories ) but DO expect that the health care socialization means that your diet may be restricted, plus lipid and other health tests be mandatory. After all, if we were less fat as a people, health care costs would be less. Slippery slope. ( in progress )

Just the first, breakfast scene is related to the link above. ( you can not bother with the rest if you like... the movie was fairly good )

Larry Niven speculated that transplant tech would have unforeseen results. Example. A human has 8 quarts of blood. A condemned murderer could have that blood collected before execution ( actually during ) and possibly save more lives than he took. While we're at it, there's a heart, 2 lungs, kidneys, liver, eyes, etc. all just going to waste.

The downside comes when the public votes lesser and lesser crimes as capital to keep up the supply of spare parts.
Well written and scary, I commend his writing.
