OK, with Jason DiSalvo switching from Ducati to Triumph, Rapp from BMW to Kawi ect... How does this work?

Are none of these factory rides? How do you just decide to switch different bikes whenever you want? Is it just based on the team choice?

Just an observation and a curious mind i guess!

Do guys have race to race deals and leave whenever something comes up that is better?

Confusing i guess!

Not factory rides, privateers. DiSalvo rides for Team Latus, who Knapp rode for in 09 on the 1125r in sportbike. This year they've been running a Triumph in supersport, so my guess is they'll stick with the Triumph in sportbike in 2012.

Does DiSalvo lose all his points b/c he is on a different bike? Last i saw he was 3rd in the standings.

Nope, keeps the points.
The rider gets points for their finish, what they are rising does not matter.

Anyone remember Mike Kidd with the #1 plate on a Honda? Never mind that he earned it as a Yamaha rider - and that he rode a Harley in the race that clinched his championship.

OK, that was a while ago - and in dirt track - but I guess it still works that way.

In most championships points are awarded to the rider regardless of the bike he is riding. The exception is where you have something like a manufacturers championship, and points are awared for this separatelyon the basis of the biek rather tan the rider.
This means that a rider could change manufacturer for every meeting and still tot up points for the rider championship.

If he wins a number one plate riding for one manufacturer he is quite legally entitled to take the plate with him to his next ride.
