Not sure if others warn drivers of speed traps by flashing their brights, but I do. Never got in trouble for it. i was ticketed in the early 90's on long island for warning other drivers on sunrise highway. it was dusk. the officer wrote me up for driving without my headlights on. guess he was pissed that i was giving up his spot. the judge saw it my way and dismissed the case. | ||

Years ago, gal in Denver was speeding thru a 25mph school-zone and got ticketed. She parked a few hundred feet from the cop and was flashing her lights to oncoming traffic. She got ticketed again for "Obstruction of Justice" I would have argued that I was actually helping Law Enforcement by slowing down traffic, 'cause that's what LEO's are doing by writing speeding tickets, right? | ||

We have one local department that is notorious for hiding on one road here at night with their car completely blacked out. Iowa law states that an officer running a stationary speed trap must have their parking lights on and must be visible from the road at a distance of 100 yards. I've been tempted to get a buddy and make two signs to hold up. One stating speed trap ahead. And then one past the trap with "donations" written on it. Now im sure they would not like it one bit. But I absolutely hate when leisure think that they are above all laws and regulations s and will write even the most bs ticket just to be a prick sometimes. | ||

I've seen the scene Spike mentioned When I lived in upstate NY (Catskills) the State Troopers would set up radar on Rt. 23 between Stamford and Grand Gorge. Some local kids on their bikes would set up, one a couple hills and turns each side of the trooper, on a wide spot, each with a sign that said "radar ahead" on one side, and "radar donations" on the other, placed to be seen by which drivers from either direction. I'd always see a car on the 'after' side, paying the 'donation' collector. Slipped them a couple bucks myself occasionally, as the old panhead I used to ride liked 75+. Speed limit was 55, IIRC. They could jump on their bicycles and high-tail it through the pastures if the officer tried to roll on them. They're probably both lawyers, now. | ||

No, they are pricks before they become cops... it is part of the job description. On the application it asks "Are you an ass hole? Y/N" If you answer yes, you are automatically signed up for motorcycle duty. In Nashville, we have bicycle police as well as those who ride Ruckus scooters. I have more respect for the bicycle cops. I thought I had been pulled over by everything when I got pulled over by a bicycle cop. Then I got pulled over by a hunchbacked meter maid guy on foot. I got nicked for not having my seat belt on. He was nabbing folks as they pulled out of a car wash and got stuck at the light. |
