He can't take off or land. The jets don't have enough thrust for a VTOL bird, and the landing would be like stepping off your bike at 120+, with the expected grinding off stuff you want to keep.

It's a cool stunt though. He flies it well.

Many, ( nearly all ) of the skydivers that build "bat suits" with wings kill themselves. The forces get too high to handle, usually, and the aerodynamics are tricky.

His rig is rigid, relies on a chute to land, and a plane to take off. I wonder how big a trebuchet you'd need to get to flying speed?
