My cousin has a friend who is thinking of acquiring a 99 Sporty with a bad transmission. He wanted to know if it is an easy fix. I said I thought it had a trap door and was easy, so I just want to see if I was correct. Does it come apart the way my M2 does? Any other thoughts/warnings? I think he's getting the bike for nothing so it can't be that bad a deal. Thanks.

When did Sporty engines lose the trapdoor?

Didn't the last tubers have the 103 HP motors that the XB's do and have more than tweaks?

The tubers always had the earlier generation EVO style sporty motor. 101HP with fuel injection on the last several years X1 and S3, slightly less for the M2s.

Should be. All the tubers had trap door trannies. It's the XB's that lost them ( : ( ). On the other hand, there have been precious few XB tranny failures, so it may be a distinction without a difference.

Sportsters lost them in '04.
