I had a '79 for a few years back in the late '90's. I like them, even with their lack of hp they are great cars.

Well, where are the pics of your new parts?

You know you want it Joe ; )

ok.. maybe the Jeep shark has bitten...
Hehehe! : D

Vern, that's looking mean! Silly question - will it be purely for off-road or can you actually road-register it with axles that wide?

In Tennessee it will be road legal. Width is not a problem, exposed tires not a problem, altitude of bumper and headlights.....that might be a problem.

It doesn't really matter to me weather it is legal for the street, I do not intend to use it that way. It would just be a good thing for getting to and from trails, there are also some forestry trails and roads that require registration tags and insurance. For the majority of it's usage I intend to trailer it to and from trail-heads like I used to do.

I am going to set it up with antique vehicle tags for just this reason. I doubt it will ever see 200 miles a year on the road.

Hey Joe, do you not still have the duce that you had a t year or so ago? A man just cannot need two of them.....right?

*I* don't have the deuce.

Somebody else does.

I'll refrain from editorializing on a family forum, and let you do the math...

A CB is always a good idea for wheelin'. I have a portable hand held that works great for this too.

Let's see a picture!

I have my engine put in place and my new Novak motor mounts installed. Had to take to engine back out and put it on the stand till I can get it fully dressed again though. : ( Hopefully I'll have the motor put back together next week so I can get it in there for good. : )

For anyone doing a V8 conversion, check out Novak. I am really glad I bought their mounting system. Really easy to install and I had TONS of adjustment.

Oh and the screwdriver is holding the chain from slipping, it's not holding the engine up.

I wasn't worried, it looks like a good screw driver to me!

Glad to see you back. Married life must be either REALLY good.....or REALLY bad.....I see you are able to work on the Jeep again!

the people at Novak are very helpful and the conversion parts they make are good stuff!

I bought some small parts for a T15 transmission from them.
and a adapter to put a sm420 and a dana 300 together for my cj5 (that still isn't finished) their parts are very good looking and fitting!

maybe a little of topic ,but does the off road magazine Four Wheeler still exists?

LOL now that's funny right there....

Not married yet, still have ~5 weeks left till then. i'm a little behind from where I thought I'd be by now but I took a week off working on it to get my bike ready for my bachelor party trip and promptly took another week off recovering from it.

Unfortunately I only get to spend 7-10 hours a week working on it.

I planned 7 to 10 hours a week for my Jeep and so far have been able to do about three. Tomorrow there may be some progress. I am about to put my dirty ol 400 back in the hole from which it came. It ran fine when it came out, I expect it will be OK when everything is plugged back in.

If I tried to make the effort to clean and paint everything now I would miss the party for sure. As it is it will look just like the last trip it made to Tellico Tn at Slick Rock. That is where a chain reaction of not good things happened to the drive train starting with the rear pinion breaking off. I am attempting to make the party with a functional Jeep, I will have to make it pretty later. Hopefully it will look and be so awesome no one will care about it's need for painting(like me right now).

Whoa, that came out a bit fuzzy. Too late to get another tonight. Two days in a row of over 17 hours in the shop. I hope my engine hoist will lift the engine high enough to get it over the fenders then be able to lower it enough to get down to the mounts. The top of the grille is shoulder high to a six footer.

I'll get a little sleep and have at it again tomorrow.

Looking good Vern & Jim, You guys are way beyond my comfort level of wrenching on what has now become my daily driver.

I'm at the point of basic maintenance, adding fun stuff and fixing it when it breaks. Other than my new Alum. gas tank skid and low profile transfer case plate... the only other thing I think would like to add is a winch and maybe some lighting.

Yeah Ken, and a pretty pirate at that!

Spent most of today really trying to get back to the Jeep, but the evil grass that is my lawn kept calling. I had to double mow to get most of the dead clippings off from the grass so that it does not smother it. This is the most evil grass cutting season I have had in my 11 years here. I did the first round of cutting between 11 am and 2 pm, just finished up the second round to blow the dead grass off and it had already grown about an inch from this morning! It is evil and mocking me! I usually cut about eight acres, but with this evil stuff I am down to about four and a half acres...... Oh crap!.....as I sit here in my office typing I can hear it growing again!

cut grass.... removed trees... ran the trimmer... moved some rocks around in the drive so I could have a bigger turn around... and went to the Depot, bought a new storm door and installed it....

I got to walk past my Jeep a bunch today

and my feet hurt!

I am not as young as I was when I completed projects like this on a tight schedule in the past. I am getting tired for sure. What is the point of this thread? I figure the only way to get me excited about finishing the Jeep will be to paste pictures of pretty pirates all over it. Damn you Mark.

I'm easily distracted when I get tired. Damn pirates.

Do you guys have any good junk yards near you?

I'm on the hunt for a late 80's, early 90's E-150 saginaw PS pump and bracket from a 302 or 351 with a serpentine belt. It'd be great to get the AC compressor & bracket to use for onboard air. : )

Trying to do the least amount of "modifying" with this V8 swap project as possible. I guess the pump on my engine isn't going to last with the tires I'm running and that particular setup bolts right up to my engine & steering box.

A man can dream............ can't he?

yeah I know I'm screwed
