I am going to avoid hydraulics, as cool as they can be, they are just too heavy for a trail rig.

I'll poke ya with a cattle prod to help

That might work all in itself. I seem to be highly allergic to electrical shock of most kinds. With only the threat of use I might just find a way to jump in after a few direct applications!

I have actually considered the over the tailgate measure. The only detriment here is the back area is usually full of stuff for a trail trip. Generally a cooler, tools, straps, spare parts, and sometimes I put the back seat in to haul people. That in itself requires a bigger cooler and they often bring folding chairs and such.

There are lower connecting roll bars at the bottom of the door openings. I am thinking about using some chain with rubber hose over it, with a solid step connecting bar. It can be welded or bolted to the roll bar with minimal effort.

with all the rain we have had this year the grout around my well gave up and the pump has been sucking in some mud.... this does not make the wife happy....

but there is a silver lining.

One of the well dudes... techs... what every you want to call them is a Jeep guy.
He told me he has built several and would be happy to point me in the right direction and such....

something tells me this will cost me more than just getting the well re-grouted.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Brad!

I have been working alone too long as of late. Sometimes a different perspective is a good thing.

"Well dude is a Jeep guy". That could be taken so wrong! Isn't that quote in a David Lee Roth song?

I wasn't thinking over the tailgate... I was thinking over the door tub area... but like the tailgate step thingy.

I just went and checked the door seal height on mine.... 28"

41" is 'bout crazy
that is about door knob hgt... or the chair rail in my office...

get one of those little trampoline things they use to do basketball dunk stunts with and launch yourself into the door opening.
Tie a string to it like a kickstand puck and haul it in once you get seated...

OOOOOOH that would be rich! I could see me miss the door opening by inches. That could really suck!

Maybe I need to work on my physique?

Sure has been a busy week. I have not been able to stay with my plan to get an hour or so a night on the Jeep. Only got in an hour for the entire week. Oh well, at least the old front axle is out of the way. Any one need any dana 30 front axle parts, circa 1971 AMC CJ7?

well Vern... I'm a wimp... cant take the heat so I dropped it of at the local shop for a new belt and clunking noise check up.
One of the mechanics is a Jeep guy so I'm sure it'll cost me double... Thanks for taking the time this morning...

the WV Buell and Jeep Rally is right around the corner!

T'wda been a greasy nasty job anyway! Smart move in this heat!

I guess the cool thing about mine is when it is time to change out the gear oils and such, jacking it up to crawl under it is not going to be real necessary. I'll just be needing to lift it high enough to take off a wheel.

That included two new covers and I got a chromey one now on my rear end... sexy

Transfer case fluid change
New belt
Upper and lower ball joints a flopping... fixed

and a free oil change... they dumped my Amsoil and tossed my Amsoil filter... I was a little pissed

but its not clunking anymore : )

Uh 2G's.....and you think the oil change was free? Wish I lived closer for your sake!

Another week of extreme heat sucking the life out of my carcass for the extra physical time needed to work on the Jeep. BUT! I did manage to move the "new" axle into a position relatively close to fitting.

Sure is hotter out there while running a blue wrench in the sunshine lately!

Once again I had to quit as the sun went down because the bugs coming in on me were tearing holes in my clothes and stealing my tools! Soon I will be able to roll it inside to close the doors where I can avoid the bugs, but man does it get even hotter in the shop.

Well, there has been some progress today. Hot and sweaty as it has been. Even a visit from a fellow BadWebber this morning.

Anyhow.....it now will roll around under it's own ability to be pushed. Suspension is all located, next up is welding in gussets where new brackets have been installed, shock mounts, parking brake stuff. Then mount and hook up steering box. Then drop the engine in. Radiator and engine fitments. Axle seals, drive shafts, universal joints, brakes, brake lines, master cylinder.....what have I got.....two weekends left?

LOL! Well, it has wheels, so it's going to be trouble and cost $$$, but it sounds like a good grins/$ ratio : D

V and I are about to start a pretty major resto on Misty the F100. We (well really I) looked at possible replacements and a Wrangler topped the list, but V loves Misty so it's off to the sandblaster she goes...

Well I guess you want details!
Truly a manly stance.

Brackets had to be shifted outward for the new wider axle. Lots of bracketry and gussets to come.

Same outward movement for the rear of the springs. I took them an inch forward for better tire to fender fit. Again lots of gussets, welding, and grinding to go.

Yes, in the middle pic I know that moved front bracket is crooked. I am working on this myself and had three other spring brackets wanting to move around. I tacked that one first. It will be straight when welded.

Thanks Graham, and you are correct, Mark is doomed.

Hey Mark, did I ever tell you it is more fun and fulfilling if you build that stuff yourself. It's more fun spending your money on the tools to do it.

I agree Vern... but the time is short and the heat is hi... I work this weekend... I teach the next and its WVBR the next.

Just a FYI.... Dad picked up a 1979 Corvette that had been wrecked... can't wait to see how that turns out
