Its much harder to find the right part then it is to actually replace the keyboard...

Also, you can get backlit keyboard retrofits for many laptops that didn't come with them, which is a very useful upgrade.

Keyboards usually are very easy to replace. On most Dell you just pop off a bezel, then 3 or 4 screws, disconnect the ribbon cable and then swap the keyboard.

had a similar problem with an old laptop i use in the garage - the same one I am on now. I bought one of the usb external laptop size keyboards for $10. Not quite as convenient but i also found out it all but eliminated the fat-fingered typos i made. I bought another one for the laptop i take on business trips because i type so much better on it than the OEM keyboard

yeah, i've done drive swaps and ram swaps and stuff on towers, just...honestly...didn't cross my mind to disassemble the laptop.

ever have those days where there's just entirely too much s**t hitting the fan all at once?

i really need this phase of life to pass me by. i haven't even had a leg over a bike in three weeks. no wonder i'm cranky!
