You know what they say about assumptions. What did he actually say? Would you agree with it if you assumed he was talking about the Communist Party U.S.A instead of assuming he was talking about the Tea Party?

It frankly appears that the committee has been selected to assure preordained failure by pitting some folks as adversaries who have little room for flexibility without either violating previously made campaign pledges or promises made subsequent to their election.

I'm placing little stock in them or the prospect of any result . . I'll take care of my own economy.

This is a traders market. Not what I wanted to do but the idiots at the controls have given some folks, willing to take a few risky bets on instability, a gift. I played for a month, got out last night and have returned to a comfy hedged position.

Thanks, by the way, for the continued employment numbers . . it was like a parting gift.

I like this guy more each day.

I agree, Court. Here are the members so far:

Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.)
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)
Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio)
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.)
Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.)
Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.)
Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.)
Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.)
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas)

Peolisi still hasn't named her three. All six Republicans have signed a pledge to Grover Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform that they will not vote to raise taxes. I suppose that doesn't mean they can't propose such a raise for OTHERS to vote on! Also, I suppose there is always the debate about whether eliminating the Bush Tax Cuts is really a raise, as Sen. McConnell said when it looked like nothing would get done unless it was a balanced plan (spending cuts and revenue increases).

Bottom line is that this is already set up to be recipe for a stalemate, even before we know who Pelosi is going to toss in. Three of the nine named members members -- two Republicans and one Democrat -- served on the Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction panel BUT VOTED AGAINST THE PLAN. In otherwords, at least 1/4 of this panel has tried this before and couldn't get it done.

Define insanity for me again?

All of this said, if these folks can somehow come together and actually agree on something meaningful (read: that will actually cut the deficit by 1.5 Trillion over the next ten years), and if that thing can actually pass the House, the Senate, and the President's veto, I would think it would give U.S. Citizens a nice little confidence bump in the government. Until it happens though, color me skeptical.

Sifo: My guess is the extreme left who kept talking about "no cuts!" and the extreme right who kept talking about "no tax raises!"

Odd that Kerry said "a group"... Singular. You mention two groups. Someone isn't paying attention.

Color me skeptical . . . time to take physical possession.

It's been a wonderful ride.

Now to short GM.
