Ignition cuts in and out, I'm not a harley guy, any body got any ideas where to look?   Doerman Posted on Sunday, July 17, 2011 - 05:43 pm:        Check the ground wire between the engine and the frame. Weird deal, it would run great for a while then quit just like you turned the key off. We tried for 3 hrs yesterday and could not get it to start. I tried it this morning and it took right off. He would loose spark for any where from 5 min to overnight. When I found him it had quit 3 times in about a mile, it then ran the 20 miles to town and refused to start after it was shut down. The next morning it fired right up. I don't know what happened after that, they gave up and towed it home.   S_palmer Posted on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 - 12:49 pm:        I was thinking bad coil too, but the owner said he had been fighting this issue for a year and the coil had just been replaced.   Pammy Posted on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 - 01:02 pm:        If the ignition is cutting in and out then the bike shuts down while you are riding but comes right back on without really stopping the bike.... If the ignition cuts out...you have to pull to the side of the road and try to restart it. What year is the bike?   Pammy Posted on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 - 01:08 pm:        He loses spark? It cranks over ad won't fire or he actually pulled a cap off and checked while cranking it over? Because a fuel issue and a spark issue will have the same symptoms...or so it will seem. Is it carbed or fuel injection? Stock? He change anything prior to the trouble starting?
