The XBRR is number 35 and the drag bike is a 1968 Ironhead Sportster that set 13 National records in three different Sanctions. Carburated-Gas Best time was 8:82 at 155 MPH. It was her idea to put them up there and it makes more room in the garage [1190RS !?]

96 Cubic Inch,Stock S&S D [no thunderjets] ,Cams were first set that Dick Hillferty made before they were called Red Shift. 16.2 to 1 compression,Ignition was built to auto-retard at high RPM by a guy named Darcy.Trans is a Full=Auto 5 speed built by Me.[Only one like it and it works great. Front half of frame was built by Bonnie Truet and the back half by me when I went to the 9 or 10[I forget] inch tire.Wet the bike weighs 312 LBS.Learned most of my tuning skills from an old friend named Jim McClure and some trial and error. This motor set the ET and MPH record in Modified[different frame] Set ET and MPH in Altered,The bike as you see it set the ET and MPH records in Pro Gas and Pro Dragster AHDRA-HDRA-AMADRAGBIKE-ECRA Got a fresh motor but hasn't been raced since 2000.

Unreal Guy but way cool. Glad my honey and I got a chance to meet you at Millers this year. When my friend Jim ran 11.08 with a baby stroker Sporty of 74 c.i. in the early 70's we thought it was great. Maybe not so much when we see what you have accomplished. Congrats my friend. And very glad you are a true Buell enthusiast. Bob

11.08 in the early seventies was about a second faster than me. Bet the 750 Hondas with 810 kits didn,t like him very much.

Hybrid-- Been to Rockingham to tune for someone but never ran there for some reason. Only Drags I go to any more are here in FLA. The rock might not have been in the southern division I did most of my racing in. Only times I left my Div. was for a race like ATCO where they paid usually $2500 to win.

One thing I forgot---IN 87 or 88 there were only 7 bikes entered in TOP FUEL at Bradenton in an 8 bike field. I figured I,d pay $60 and make a pass to collect the $125 qualifing money.Ended up I qualified #3 so I figured I'd run first round to see what happened. Ran against a High gear bike so with a good Light I put quite a distance on him. I won by INCHES!Final round the guy broke so had to solo for a win.[Not as much fun but thats racin] Back then they ran a FINAL SHOOTOUT between Top/F and Top/F Pushrod dialed from both bikes best times of the weekend. The crowd went crazy when the 20 year old Gasser took out the 14 in. tired Turbo/Nitrous Suzuki.{Not a lightweight either, very good rider that still races.] Very fun day at the track- Won my class also and lowered my record.

Do have a good story- You guys that don't follow drags might not know these two racers. Both are deceased now but I believe they did the most for racing that anyone ever did. I considered them both good friends and people I looked up to for many years. Jim McClure and Elmer Trett. When someone like them talked you tend to want to listen. Jim came to me at the track one day and gave me a set of CAMS and said slyly "try these".I spent the next 4 weeks at test and tune trying to make them work with no luck.I spent more time than I probably should have because I didn't want to admit to Jim I didn't have the tuning skills to make them work. I finally gave up and put my old cams back in and took them to Jim at the next race. I told him I tried all kinds of combos and wasn't able to dial them in. Jim says "Good I couldn't make them work either-Come with me". He walks over to Elmer Trett and hands him the cams and says whats the story with these cams you gave me to try? Elmer asked if they worked and Jim told him he had no luck with them.Elmer says Good I couldn't get them to work either and wanted a second opinion. The company that gave them to Elmer never made that grind for sale to the public. In a way I was honored to Verify what the two best in racing thought but then thought it was funny none of us wanted to admit we couldn't make something work!

guy - awesome story.

A lame follow up but very similar...
I was in dublin for st patty's in 2010 - went to breakfast w/ GF one morning. At breakfast i ordered their side of sausages.

After I took a bite of one , she asked for a bite... i let her... so she did and then immediately spit it out.

I said "good it's not just me". Odd texture and just wasn't what i expected. She punched me for letting her take the bite... lol.

I like your story better, but time in dublin was a blast and still a great memory! my lame .02 hehehe

Guy - very cool story!
Yes, those two are legends, never will be forgotten. Heck, Trett has been dead for some time now and is still in the top 10 fastest people ever, quite a feat!

Again, never knew either personally, but have heard stories around the pits.
And Jims wife Phyllis still comes to the AHDRA races, especially the fall Rock one, the Jim McClure Nitro Nationals.

A cool story I heard about Jim (it might have been on dragbike.com) was he once had this little round plastic box thing, and had some wires coming out it, had it mounted to his bike - people thought it was some new go-fast part, he was beating them before they even got to the waterbox.
It ended up falling off of the bike in the pits, thats when people realized it was nothing, literally just some wires going nowhere.
Genius though.

If I ever have to go into my transmission on my bike....trust me, it will go to Mark for the full treatment.

A buddy runs an 840cc Kawi 650 with nitrous. The transmission in it is a 1-2-3 auto built by Mark in '96 or '97...runs mid 9's...still working (it has been out, magnafluxed and touched up a couple of times)...but the quality of the work is outstanding.

I have referred several Badwebbers to them. They truly are the best in the business.

I'm liking your display idea, might use that for the Uly when I retire it. I have been telling folks that when it goes beyond 100,000 miles and it is time to retire it, I'm going to hang it on a wall in my shop. Seems like this would be much cleaner!

Really enjoying your stories. Reminds me of some of the things I heard and lived back in my dirt track car days. Great stuff, like to read more if you have time.
