Brad, You realize we have Coyotes right here in our neighborhoods don't you? They would control your tree rat problem.....and your neighborhood farmers poultry problem.....and your out door pet problem..... Two of them showed up as road kill right across the street from my driveway a couple of years back.

Yeah- gawd they're pretty canines, hate to see roadkill like that, but I realize that just like bears, as they get acclimated to humans, they become pests... Vern, you had a prime opportunity to score a fine pelt and some native "Injun" mojo... or at least a new seat cover for the Uly... |

Brad, their calls carry really well at night. The pack is at least a quarter mile away, probably more; sounds like a good sized pack. I've not heard of any trouble in the neighborhood from them. |

Depending on your dog that Coyote most likely poses no threat. That Cat however..... I'd rather deal with multiple coyotes especially the smaller southern ones |

Yikes! That's a big bird, could haul off a pomeranian or some other small yappy dog... I thought it was cool when a yellowtail hawk showed up in my birdbath... |

Thank you DNR and BIG insurance companies , for the coyote . In Maryland they protect them so they can kill the deer and save us from BAMBI . Got a nice Redtail here , squids |

We used to have lot's of rabbits around. Then a coyote moved in and cleared them all out. Haven't seen the coyote for over a year now. I've identified at least 4 different rabbits this past week. Nice to see them back. They will no doubt repopulate very quickly. Should make fertile grounds for the next coyote. Such is the balance of nature. BTW, it's all due to climate change. |

There are 3 Osprey that nest very close to my house. They perch on some pilings close to my dock. They are constantly hunting. The neighbor girl found a big eyeball on their dock last week. No dought dropped from the sky on a fly by. Ewwww. Not many Squirrels though. No rabbits. The occasional possum or Raccoon. Someone said a cat got attacked by a coyote, but I can't see that happening here. |

Update: Sat outside as dusk was approaching, mixing quite a bit of cayenne and red pepper into the birdseed, using a "big gulp" type cup to shake all the stuff together- my palm turned pretty red, got a little on my face and felt the heat. (Washed my hands asap afterward.) Shook a little cayenne on the ground for good measure. Also refilled the hummingbird feeders, although sadly, we've not seed but one this year so far. If the dang squirrels still keep eating the seed I just put out, heck, they're OK in my book. That's some hot shiznit. |

The Little Kid has a Burmese Python, probably 7 feet long, he feeds it rats. I went to the feed store and bought three LARGE feeder rats. He fed two of the rats to Molly and one of the rats excaped in the garage with the Uly....I'm thinking wires eaten, poop and pee everywhere, and any other electrical wires it can get it's teeth into are toast. Tonight, I go out to the garage and who should I see sneeking around in the garage, but dear old Ratatolli! I went inside to get some bunny feed and put it in a 5 gallon bucket with a one-way ramp up to the lip. In the mean time I went into the garage a couple of times and saw the sneeky little thing and was able to get close enough to grab it by the tail and put it back in the cage! Bon Appetit' Molley! I can now add Bare Handed Rat Catcher in my Resume! |

My rats have defiantly crossed a line here today. They gnawed a hole into my new plastic garbage can bug enough for their fat asses to get inside. When they get inside next, they will find a yummy chunk of rat poison on the top of the trash inside. Also, I have sighted in my Benjamin Sheridan .22 War. War never changes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AihKA_AgMok |

Good God Swampy- live rats eh? Got a true story for ya... When I acquired my house, had to do a LOT of fixing up. I'd been renting an apartment just around the corner, so I'd head to the house and start fixing stuff... One night I was here, spackling and painting, with my dog hanging out- his nature was to just be nosy and inquisitive about everything, so he was always on the move... at some point in time, I noticed he wasn't doing his "rounds". Found him in the kitchen, looking up and down the set of drawers/cabinets next to the dishwasher, then stretching to look at the top of the whole thing, then starting over again. I'd seen some snacks I'd left chewed on, had an idea... I quickly YANKED the top drawer out, but it didn't come all the way out- I'd caught a big momma rat trying to bail out the back by her back leg and tail, which was snagged in by the back face of the drawer... Now I had to decide what to do. This rat was big and healthy enough to bite through any gloves (including winter MC gloves), so I had to think of some way of "handling" the rat in order to kill it. Thought I had some giant channel-lock pliers handy, but didn't- in the meantime, giant momma rat was screeching and beginning to chew on my wood cabinet... Finally I saw that a neighbor had just shown up, and that he was heading into his tool shed- borrowed a set of pruning shears, which thankfully were dull enough, used them and a claw hammer and secured the giant rat, took it outside and finished it off. (Had my good buddy not been sharp enough to notice while I was painting...) |
