The photo in the JSonline article of the black bike.... its not a Carbon, its missing the heat extractor in the side panel and it has no lights or mirrors. I am assuming the pic was taken at RA when Cycle World was there but Cycle World rode a Carbon. Is this the race bike?
the black bike is the race bike 1190. It has to be fiberglass as carbon bodywork is not legal in the AMA. I believe the back wheel proves it to be the 1190
the bodywork is different on the 2 bikes. the rear wheels are the same, but the RR does not have the Ohlins suspension. Not sure what's going on with the rear wheel. Maybe they are running the 1125RR rear wheel on the 1190 for some reason? But the rest of the bike appears to be the 1190. Note the frame as well
Reading through the comments in that Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article shows just how much misinformation there is out there about Buell.
I'm resisting the urge to jump in and tell them about the Pegasus Race Team . . who just last year took on all the BIG boys, the factory teams, and had enough points that if they'd fail to show for the last two events of the year . . they'd still have won.
So far this year . . Four Pole Positions . . Four Wins.
Not sure that constitutes "getting killed".
We'll see.
If I were investing I'd darn sure rather be putting money in Erik Buell Racing than HOG right now . . .
Ft_bstrd has it right. Not enough wheels to go around yet, so customers come first. Geoff will have to run heavy ones some of the time, since we need a number of different wheels prepped for tire and gearing choices. You are allowed to change wheels in AMA Superbike.
Court- minor glitch in what I assume was one of your responses, a quote from the Cycle World test: 'made the Ducati 1098 "feel like a trucK". '
They actually said it made the Ducati 848 feel like a truck. Since the 848 is a smaller and lighter bike than the 1098, that would seem to indicate Steve's original remark was giving the 1190RS even higher praise.
