I saw this on another borad and thought I'd cross post it.

Below is a message I just got from the AMA. Those not members wouldn't ever see this without looking for it. Glenn, any way that we could have a sticky that any AMA members could post to so that forum members could read it and take action on the ones that they care about?

Bill introduced to prohibit EPA from authorizing use of gasoline containing greater than 10 percent ethanol
Take Action!
Urge your Representative to support today!
On February 28, 2011, Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) introduced H.R. 748. This bill would prohibit the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from authorizing the use of gasoline containing greater than 10 percent ethanol in certain vehicles.
In addition to Rep. Sensenbrenner, Reps. Tom Petri (R-WI), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Dennis Ross (R-FL) and Wally Herger (R-CA) are original cosponsors.

The Energy and Environment Subcommittee of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, chaired by Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), will be holding a hearing entitled "Hitting the Ethanol Blend Wall: Examining the Science on E15" on July 7 at 2:00 pm EDT. To watch a live webcast of the hearing, click here.
In October 2010 the EPA approved E15, a new gasoline formulation that contains up to 15 percent alcohol by volume, for use in model year 2007 and newer light duty vehicles (cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty passenger vehicles). In January 2011, it added model year 2001-2006 light duty vehicles to the approved list.
As a motorcyclist, you need to be very careful because currently most on- or off-highway motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are not approved for use of this fuel.
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is concerned about E15 because it combusts at a higher temperature than gasoline that contains a lesser amount of ethanol. In engines not designed to dissipate this additional heat, engine damage in the form of premature wear can result. This is a concern for all motorcycles and ATVs, and particularly for the air-cooled engines found in many machines. Moreover, use of E15 can void the manufacture warranty.
Since the approved list includes many light-duty vehicles in use today, refineries, distributors, and fueling stations may choose to offer primarily E15 gasoline because of this action by the EPA. This should be of concern to all motorcyclists and off-highway enthusiasts since this may affect the availability of gasoline with less or no ethanol (E10 or E0).
We need your help to pass H.R. 748. You can find contact information for your Representative at AmericanMotorcyclist.com > Rights > Issues & Legislation, then enter your zip code in the "Find your Officials" box. A prewritten e-mail is available for you to send to your federal elected official immediately by following the "Take Action" option and entering your information.
Be sure to read the August issue of American Motorcyclist magazine, which includes a column entitled "Alcohol and Motorcycles Don't Mix" for more information on this issue.
Again, the AMA urges you to write your Representative today and ask them to support H.R. 748.

I fear that's a doomed cause. The rare and scary combination of major agribusiness and greenies has made booze in fuel a major money item.

Don't confuse them with facts.
The fact that alcohol uses just as much energy to create as it gives off when burned in your car is of no matter. ( the actual numbers are so close that it may be a net fossil fuel loss. hard to tell, and many telling...lie )
The fact that you can't move booze through pipelines, but instead must truck & train it in tanks, is no matter. ( that that transport almost certainly makes it a net energy loss.... is inconceivable. )
The fact that booze has less energy per pound than gasoline, so your range and mileage drops, is no matter.
The fact that booze in gasoline caused corrosion and water separation ( causing more corrosion ) especially in older machines is no matter.
The fact that booze in gas cost more, is no matter.

The EPA has a budget %150 higher than 2 years ago. So YOU, do not matter.

But...hey, why not. Write your congresscritter. maybe you're lucky and have one that cares more about you than the "campaign contributions" that ADM gives out. Good luck.

It takes one barrel of crude to produce 31 more barrels.
It takes one barrel of crude to produce 3.....(THREE!) barrels of ethanol. I read this in Popular Science and tend to believe it as they have NO political or money agenda......and popular Science is about facts and science as best as they can present..as near as I can tell.

I used to get into global warming discussions with a scientist who was directly involved in the ethanol production field. He was a total Kool Aid drinking greenie and we disagreed on almost everything. The one thing we agreed on was that ethanol, as a fuel is a loser.

Well,.. you still wanna stick it to the man, get an electric motorcycle ... but the registrations & ins. will eventually be huge once more people buy them. OR be healthier and get a bicycle... oh wait... more and more states require even bicycles to be registered (will those prices increase too?)... I bet soon.. you will have to register your shoes to pay for.. sidewalks and paths....

(I don't get out much, can u tell?)

I did learn that the earth will not get closer and closer to the sun and vaporize,... it is the sun that will eventually expand... engulfing the earth and vaporizing it.

And if the Sun does expand and grab it, it will collapse into a super dense, super gravity star and pull the Earth in and crush it!
