Out on the Uly this afternoon scouting boat launch areas for the fourth fireworks show tonight, damn if a storm front didn't come up and cut my ride short. As I was riding the 20 miles back home, I was kinda surfing the front edge of the storm. It was moving just about the same speed that could average being held up by street lights and traffic. There was no lightning and the rain was just starting, but the wind was crazy! The wind would gust from the left then the right with quite powerful force. I saw several small vertical down bursts. Lots of leaves and small limbs were blowing about. Weeds along the road were being blown flat. I got stopped at an intersection in the open with a "smart" traffic light.....so I could not go until it "saw" a truck pull up behind me on the second round of green light(stupid F&^%$#@ Light!  ). The guy in the truck behind me had to be wondering what I was doing out when a gust from the left side nearly knocked me and the bike over. I was expecting it with my stubby out-riggers as far as they could reach, but if I hadn't been ready I would have been down for sure. Half way home I had to turn left to go straight and that put me right into the front edge of the rain, so I laid down on the air box cover and screwed it on. In a couple of miles at near triple digits, I got in front of the rain and rode just far enough to dry out my gear when I pulled in the driveway. These Michelin Pilot Road II's are amazing in the rain. I've not had much chance to get out lately so if it has to be a short ride it might as well be exciting! What a great day!  | ||

Good one buddy- that'll get your adrenaline up, trying to outrun a nasty one... BTW Vern, didn'tcha know that TN passed a law allowing bikers to "blow" a light that won't cycle, "safely", after looking left and right after a full stop? (True story, that law was passed a couple of years ago...) Keep the rubber side down- I'll holler atcha sometime soon, talk about next month's ride, look forward to October...  | ||

Hi Brad, Oh yeah, I know the rule about the lights, but there was enough traffic that there was no clear pass through time. It is really frustrating with the storm right on your ass. With as little riding that I have been able to do this season, it made my day to get out for a while. | ||

If they are traffic lights with sensors in the tarmac and the bike is too light to register - just let it rest on the side stand for a second near the sensors. Works nearly every time. |
