It's a sad state of affairs when the world revolves around the "instant gratification" of a pointless text message. I have several friends that don't have a cell phone. It's never been a problem and more often, a plus. Go over to their place and see 'face to face' what's happening, share a brew or hey,as long as you are here, stay for supper..............

"Problem is how would the car know if the driver or passenger is using the call? It can't. Passenger can't use a tablet to look up a nearby hotel and book a room, or check his Facebook and email."

The real problem is the brain damage cell phones cause.

Seems that some people can't seem to decide if they should start the car first or stick the cell phone to to their ear.
The minute both are activated their IQ drops to single digits.

They should book the damn hotel or check the number of other idiots that are sexting them on facebook before or after they get out of the car.

Or try texting while riding a motorcycle at high speed.
That should take them out of the gene pool and hopefully they don't take someone with them.

Morons.

I'd like to say my rant is over but I'm still...

Now we're getting onto the tricky freedom/safety debate again.

If you have a widget that blocks cellphone use while the vehicle is in motion, how long til it's all in court as an infringement of civil liberties or somesuch crap?

Another answer could be to incorporate a multiplication factor into the penalty system.

If you kill somebody while driving & the normal tarif is x years & x dollars, it should be doubled if the accident was due to texting while driving.

Big publicity campaign on every channel, with well known public figures.

Full face shot of them shouting "If you text & drive, you're a F*****G MORON"

People texting at the wheel would soon get fed up with others pointing at them & shouting "yerrafugginmoron".

Any more ideas?

Have you? It isn't too hard if you got a throttle lock, but gloves do make it a pain.

Texting while driving is beyond monkey stupid. Anytime you have to take your eyes off the road puts "everyone" at risk. Where are all the liberal nutjobs on this? Like, what if your township has 4 ambulances, and there are 5 accidents (including your monkey stupid texting accident) what about the 5th person with a heart attack or stroke at about the same time that has to wait an extra 20-30 min for responders.

Seems like a rule San Fran would be happy with. i.e. no chocolate milk in schools, no happy meals, but you can smoke pot & get stoned everywhere. LOL.

BTW...Drunk and disorderly laws are everywhere..., are there any "stoned and disorderly" laws yet?

low power signal scrambler that activates automatically when the vehicle starts moving.

What if it was some kind of emergency and you needed to contact the police while driving? Some crazy drunk swerving and putting people at risk? You wouldn't be able to do diddly squat.

Regulate the frequencies for all phone companies, and give all phones a special 911 frequency that works all the time.

I almost got hit Yesterday by a young driver on their cell phone. They did a sudden lane change coming up to a red light right in front of me. I rolled up to her window and yelled "Put the phone down and drive" then rolled back by my riding buddy. I didn't see it happen, but later my buddy told me that the folks in the car in the other lane cheered my doing that.

Use your own best judgement before doing something similar. It's not always the smartest thing confronting other drivers no matter how wrong they are.

They should ah stopped the technology at the bag phone level. Lots of problems solved. When my scanner could pick up analog cell phone conversations,I could hardly handle 5 minutes of "listening in", The conversations were sickening, pointless and disgusting. I'm sure text messages are the same.

Xdigital- ROFLMAO, that's a real locomotive horn I'm guessing... a customer of mine is an OTR truck driver, he had one on one of his rigs once- I got him to give it a pull as he was leaving the dealership one day- all the old men who roost out front levitated!!!

I'd LOVE to install one on every vehicle I own, and my family's...
