On my home from work to get ready to take the twins up north fishing, coming out of the the last turn before my house, the belt on my M2 let loose. First time that has happened on the bike. Lucky for me I was just a couple hundred yards from my house and managed keep the bike upright. But man is that an experience that will make your day and get the ol' heart pumping. So...where it the best place to a belt for a 2000 M2? | ||

Glad you are ok ! Same thing happened to a friend of mine who was riding my 2002 M2L. Whatever you do, do NOT go through Capitol City in Madison. +1000 on American Sport Bike!!! | ||

I broke one during a normal 1st to 2nd shift. I thought I had a lazy shift that found neutral. I shifted again and knew right away that the belt was gone. It seemed weird that it would break without ever feeling it hit 2nd. | ||

Beats losing a chain. Lost a chain on a Suzuki 125 two smoke dirt bike. Knocked a chunk out of the crank case and got all jammed up against the output shaft. Belts just shoot out the back. I would go ahead and replace the rear isos while you are replacing the belt. | ||

yeah the chain on my 400ex(worked) snapped and took out shifter shaft and case inner and outer.. damn expensive to replace.. | ||

I broke 3 chains on my old Suzuki GT750. Only one of them broke the case and bent the output shaft.  | ||

yeah i do not do wheelies on purpose i have had some issues with those on the past,i just pin it and if the front happens to come up a bit its ok,, mainly i just go fast and turn tight and fast. | ||

ohh ok then maybe i should get a new belt soon then.. i have 10k on the stock belt.. the previous owner never rode her hard,,but i give her all she has..  | ||

Don't bother man. My first X1 belt lasted over 40,000. X1 is the easiest belt to replace too. My record is 45 minutes  It's the same belt as any sportster belt. (There is an upgraded Buell part numbered one but the sportster one is easy to find in stock.) I would suggest buying a belt and storing it for that magic day when you pop it. | ||

Talked with Al at American Sport Bike, thanks for the tip Brad, he suggested upgrading to the XB belt as it is a tougher and beefier belt. At $175.00 per, I can not afford to keep a back up. | ||

Maybe, if you are leaned over a good bit exiting a turn. Otherwise, no. |
