I'd love to have some of the old armacchi bikes.
There was a 250 for sale at a swap meet a few years back, didnt run, something in the motor, guy didnt know what. It was so tempting.

But more than those, I'd like the old army bike with the rotax motor

good thread DD, thanks

Earl Kellerman (Antelope Valley Buell) is restoring a "Shortster" and has done a BUNCH of Aermacchi restorations. This time in Harley's life had some cool machinery.

The owner of my local Harley shop has a Shortster on display in his museum collection. It looks to be brand new.

At least back in the AMF years they had the good sense to diversify their offerings- my first motorized 2-wheeler was a 2-speed Moto-Morini moped, sold by the local HD dealership...

FWIW, I've got a '77 Shovelhead lowrider for sale- not yet put it on Craigslist here locally, but will be soon...

DD - I'm trading my old truck to a guy who has one of these. He's offered it up as partial trade. Interested?

Harley has had some very cool niche one off bikes that I would have liked to add to the herd.
The Shorster is one
The 'Rancher' (a Hummer 165 with Highpipe)
The 78-9 XLCR
the MX 250.... one in DS, and another in SM
The 84 XR 1000 mmmmmmm
The original 96 'Bad Boy' Springer
and a modded canyon carving lightened FXR with rear sets ! Exile built one.... but for 75K ! too rich for my bank acount

City - I had a black and yellow Bad Boy - prettiest bike Harley ever built. Traded it on my Buell back in 2000 and never looked back. But it sure was a nice looking bike.

HMP the FXR was a Harley product, Dyna frame, modified I think to be a little more aggressive

An FXR is NOT a Dyna frame. Not even close.
The FXR is way better IMO

I don't think Harley would have ever built a model specific frame, which is why I suspect it was a modified Dyna frame. Highly modified maybe.

@Jb2

Very interested when I was 13. More of a 'curio' now. But thanks for asking.

Kilroy, sorry but you are incorrect
The FXR frame is nothing like a Dyna.
HD replaced the FXR frame with the Dyna frame. The Dyna frame was cheaper to make.
I wonder who had a big hand in designing the FXR frame(from what I have been told)? He's pretty popular around here.

daves - youre correct.

My question towards the guy above was based on his wording. He was stating HDs that they (HD) had made, but then mentioned Exile selling one they build for 75k or something, thats what I didnt understand

Exile probably started with an fxr frame or just built their own fxr type frame. Sorry just always gets me when fxrs and dynas get confused. Kind of like all the people over 20 years, back in the day that called iron head sportsters, shovelheads. That always really drove me nuts!

The exile bike
of course it would be leaner, meaner, lighter with the Buell motor ; ) while we are at it, the ZTL, 17'ers, inverted front end, and a monoshock rear ....

I stand corrected - and I should have known who was behind that bike. Thanks for the info
