Just in case you all never venture into the Storm Front section, this weekend I'll once again be hosting the Res Ride along with XB9er and NittanyXT. For the early arrivals, tonight we will be meeting up for some Mexican food probably, but not set in stone, around 7:00. Tomorrow will start off with breakfast at the "one and only" Tom and Joe's Diner where their slogan is "You can't pay for entertainment this good", and the food ain't too bad either! For those arriving tomorrow, be at my shop (550 N 5th St, Bellwood, PA 16617-just north of Altoona on Interstate 99) around 10:00 for the Res Ride. Sunday, and it looks like the weather is going to stay dry, we'll be riding to the Flight 93 Memorial site in Shanksville, PA If you have any questions or problems on the way here, call me: 814-nine three two -7405. Well I sure appreciate the offer Froggy! I have the 'one armed paper hanger in a wind storm' syndrome. With my shop help and secretary gone I have work to do from janitorial to presidential that is getting further behind. Thanks to the hail that has been dumped by recent storms, it's more a situation where the shop is full of work and I am the only employee at this time. I have to be the grown up at the moment, I cannot leave my business and customers hanging. Oh and I will have company this weekend, and my fork seals are setting on my desk(not quite where they belong). I have hours of paperwork that must be fixed finished and filed in a timely manor or my secretarial skills will be proven lame to the point that fines will be instilled. For the tenth time this week I am stuck in my office, paper work in hand, waiting for a return call from a customer or a vendor. |

Safe ride by all today. Only had one little hiccup with a check engine light that flashed on for a few seconds on a bike. Other than that THE DAY ROCKED! If you weren't here, you missed a great ride. More details in the Res Ride thread. |

I did not get to make it to the Res Ride this year. Suck. Glad to see that all went well. I did get in about ten hours of riding though. None on the bike of course. All of it on the John Deere mowing the fastest growing grass and weeds I have ever had in eleven years of being here. Another part of my janitorial job. But what the heck, tractors are like bikes if you have the right one it is not a bad ride. |

My trip odometer says 1200 miles for the weekend. But I still have all day today to rack up some more. I had a great ride heading out there from southern Connecticut. A perfect weather friday morning with no traffic. Apparently, there were severe thunderstorms thursday night in Sullivan county, N.Y. and northeast Pennsylvania, closing roads due to fallen trees. For me, this meant detours through some of the most beautiful backroads the northeast has to offer. Just miles and miles of twisty mountain roads that I never would have found otherwise. Makes for a great day. I hope I can find them again. I made my way to central Pa., and the sky got scary dark, so I hopped on I-99 for the last 35 miles to Altoona. Thats when it started raining BUCKETS, with thunder and lightning to go along with it. I just powered through. At this point, I was having such a great day, this just seemed like fun. Get to the hotel, start drying out gear, and I hear that V-twin rumble outside... in the rain. Open the door, it's Toona and (dang I forgot your name sorry). Just came by to check up on anyone who might be hanging out. After a quick visit, I hit the sack exhausted. Here's the weird part. Next morning, I find a guy in the parking lot with a dirtbike on his truck, so we started to chat a bit. Turns out, there's a national event nearby on sunday, and he's a 52 year old privateer racer (Glen Shedd) running in the GNCC national circuit ranked 7th in the country. Now, this guy comes across like a total wildman. When he talks about racing, you can see the fire in his eye. Just my kind of guy. He's out here all alone, on his own dime, with no one to help him. So I offer to help him pit, and he got really excited and accepted my offer. I even offered to share my room with him for the night seeing it was already paid for, and there was another bed that wasn't being used. He accepted that offer as well. So we planned on meeting up after I got back from the Res Ride (and Meadows run ) Great time, by the way. So, after the Res ride, I get back to the hotel and find Glen. He gives me the details (this guy can talk) of the next days events, what I'm supposed to do, where we're pitting, etc... We hit the sack and get up early sunday to go racing. Turns out, he's not running in an over 50 class or anything, he's running in 200c 16+, which means he's running against teenagers! (I told you he's a wildman) Glen had a good run. Wrecked on the last lap, smashing in his exhaust, not to mention bruising his knee and shoulder pretty good. No DNF and still came in 7th. Not too bad. It was fun to watch the other racers interact with Glen in the pits. He's a really fun guy, and works really hard to be the best rider he can be, and everyone seems to respect him for it. He makes a point to shake hands and get to know all the competitors, offering words of encouragement. The crowd seemed to enjoy cheering him on as well. I've never been to a dirtbike race, and thanks to Glen, I wasn't just a spectator, I was actually involved. Great experience, I hope I get to do it again. As for the Res Ride, I always have an excellent time, this time was no exception. If you've never been out to central Pa. You're missing out on some great riding, great food, and great people. |

It was great to be in the company of some like minded buellers. I haven't been doing much riding other than to and from work lately so it was good to get out and ride for no reason at all. I must say Toona kept the group organized, cautioned us to ride our own pace and kept it very interesting. Everybody behaved themselves riding civilized when needed and "briskly" when roads permitted. That was awesome. I was very pleased that my old S3 tuber BIGBIRD ran so well with you guys. or maybe it was just me and Bigbird was just happy to be in the company of its younger siblings.Either way you cant go wrong with that combination of riding and food. It was a pleasure riding with you guys. Toona, thanks for doing the res run. Froggy, thanks for reactivating my account here. Now for the question, Can we do it again Huh Huh maybe in the fall??? |

I can't do it over Labor Day weekend. Still waiting on Rkc to let us know when surf season is finished on Long Island, so he could participate. The fall leaves start changing colors mid-late September, at the earliest. You don't want to do it in mid-late October, too many leaves on the roads. When us the Headless Horseman run in NY? I'd rather not schedule against that ride. I'm thinking its closer to Halloween, but I dunno. |

Something else to consider is a Penn State Football home game weekend. Don't want to do that, too much traffic, hotels are full as well. |

Penn State away on 9/17,10/1, and 10/22. Lets tentatively pick one or two, or go for 9/17 with 10/1 as a rain date, just my 2 cents |
