We stayed at Victorian Village last time, it was a dump Wow!!! the Victorian a dump??? Its a very very old hotel that is very well kept. I'll have to let my Brother know as he sits on board with the Association of owners between The Osthoff,The Vic and Siebkens. The Oshoff though is actually Condo's that the owners rent out.It is 5 stars no doubt about it. Thats where I'll be. That being the qualifier there are now counting this day as part of the countdown: 12 days to go! or for me 7 workdays in a row. When this started you'll recall the talk was of having no Homecoming at all. Things are Buell were really up in the air . . . no one was quite sure if there would be a Buell or if so where the company might be located. (Eventually some great tales of what was going on will come to light) But . . . then a couple folks popped up and indicated that "Homecoming or not . . . I'm going to be there". I responded by saying I would too. The plan was that we'd do something terribly informal . . . those who wanted would gather, spend time, tell tales, visit and do some riding in the area. The logic was "I'm going to be there for the races anyway . . . why not drop by and visit with friends?" In the interim LOTS (so much that few folks are going to believe it) has changed at Erik Buell Racing since then. As time has passed folks have been more and more interested in at least getting together and gathering at Buell. Erik was here about a week ago and there was talk that things are so busy (some of you have perhaps noticed that all shipping, order taking and so forth has been suspended . . . in addition there was talk of working 24 hours a day) that no one would even be able to come outside. My response was that that would not impact anything since we hadn't planned on that anyway . . . we were just going to get a bunch of owners together. Early on I made it quite clear that there would be no tours. This, and again I tried to be perfectly honest and straight forward, was for two reasons. The first is simply the insurance thing. Erik Buell Racing simply doesn't have some of the luxuries that Buell Motorcycle had and there is a LOT changing (the production lines have been set up over the past several months and it's been chaos) inside that makes it a very poor idea for folks to be walking about. The "there won't be any tours or going inside, just like last year". . . was clear from the outset. I hope this clears up some of the confusion. What we ARE going to do . . . . We've had a couple folks who have volunteered to help ( we could still use a pop up tent if anyone in the area has one) and we'll gather at the factory at 10:00am a week from today. Depending (again, there are a couple things in the works that are literally so deadline critical that it's impossible to plan) on what happens we may be joined by Erik and some of the folks at Erik Buell Racing. I'm sure we'll get them to roll a couple bikes out . . . . if you haven't seen the 1190RS . . .you are in for a treat. In addition . . . I had a small number of shirts made . . . that we'll sell there for $20. They look something like . . . Like the event . . . the shirt will be simple. No frills . . just a message. By the way . . . I owe a huge thanks to a Badwebber (who I won't identify until I have his permission to do so) for the design . . . I think the shirt is off the charts great looking . . reminiscent of the simple "Buell Academy" shirt from 1997. We also have Steve Slaughter and the folks at Antelope Valley to thank for, once again, providing a support to underwrite shirts for all the Elves who will be there. One of the things we'll be doing on Thursday . . even if we have to leave them at the door . . knock and run . . is to leave shirts for all the Elves. Based on past experience we'll have no problem finding anything to do once we get together . . . In the past "standing around talking" has easy turned into a better part of a day. Some of the locals have offered to take folks riding on local roads as well. In addition (see the above about LOTS going on) there are other things that could develop . . . if they do . . BONUS . . but there's nothing cast in stone at this point. It sounds like, from reading prior posts . . . like folks will be heading off for lunch in East Troy. Last year this was great and a number of us basically took over one of the local places and had a ball. Thursday evening (which I **think** coincides) with the local Bike Night or Hot Rod Night) we'll gather at Gus's Drive-In to hang out, tell stories and visit. Starting on Friday . . . it's all about RACING. Many of us have gotten rooms at the track and are holding out breath to see what Buell shows up with. I got to see Geoff at Daytona and, regardless of what he's riding that day, it's going to be a great show. That's kinda the deal in a nutshell . . . if you're wanting an aerial flyover, clowns and cotton candy . . well, you'll have to wait until next year. If you want to just come, hang out and have a good time . . . well . . . THAT is a Buell tradition. See ya at Homecoming 2011.
