Nice street bike. It's a kin to the Matador enduro bike I still have (and need to get running again  ). |

i had great spark out of it last night. sprayed some fuel in the carb and got to here it breath for the first time in 30+ years!!!
sounds wicked like a 2 stroke should.
tore the carb somewhat apart. man is it clean in there. the petcock on the other hand is not. had to pull apart the filter on it. not sure what i will replace it with...(the filter) assuming i can get the rest of the gunk out of it so it will flow anything. good thing is it has redundant factory fuel filters. one on the petcock and one where it goes in the carb. one at the carb looks brand new.
and from what im hearing this particular paint scheme is a 67 metralla, but from what i see the mk2 had an enclosed chain. this does not...

i also read that some of them had a pump you pushed the plunger on to mix the oil for the bike. i was under the understanding that this was a pre mix in the tank since he said he used to carry around oil in the compartment under the seat. and was thinking if he remembered right he mixed it 50-1.
but this one is listed as a 65 and does not have the enclosed chain. it has the same guard on it as mine...

Back in the day the owners manual recommended
25/1, on our race bikes we ran 32/1.
With the better oils of today 40/1 should work fine.
Bul's were the first bikes that I had that I learned to ride with 2 fingers on the clutch a the end of the straight's going in corners.
Crank seal on the primary side of the early models are notorious for failing, think of early oil injection.lol.
Easy to fix,the crank seals on both sides are held in removable flanges held with six 6mm bolts.
We made new flanges that would accept two seals each,more drag/friction but peace of mind when fippin' it sideway's at 80+.
BTW, ATF in the primary and 80/90 in the gear box for best results. |
