So now that I'm retired I put my house on the market last Monday and accepted an offer on wed. I've decided to move down to either the Venice FL area , Gulf Breeze FL or eastern Tn (I know TN has the best Motorcycle roads in the world but my kids prefer FL)Just wanted to get some opinions on the places I'm looking from some people that live there.I need good schools ,low crime and a lower cost of living than NY. I'm 43 so I'm not looking for an old age community.I do plan on renting for a year before i buy. Thanks for any suggestions.

+1 on renting. Also, can you go to these places yourself for a bit of a longer stay, to get the feel for them for you to better judge for yourself? I'm only suggesting that so you don't uproot the kids more than once, if you find your first choice was not the best.

I do plan on flying down later this month and looking around, but I figure i can get better info from the locals. I also figure I will need to be planted somewhere before August since school starts earlier down there ,in FL anyway.

location, location, location
mine sat on the market for 18 months, ended up selling well below assessed value
it is the land equivelant of buying a boat.

next happiest, ... the day you got out from under it.

We're entering the double dip recession in housing. In a year, you'll find better prices.

Well for an opinion, I did 17 years or so in the Tampa area. I was heavy into golf, bass fishing, and RV camping. Motorcycling was an afterthought through that period even though I had bikes. I probably rode nearly as many miles in Croom and Ocala NF on my dirt bikes, as I did miles on my road bikes.

I've been in East Tennessee for over eleven years now. I haven't had my golf clubs out as much here as in one month in Fl. I go out on the lakes on my boat for the views as much as the fishing. I usually keep a camper of some sort, just as a guest house and facility for the pool. My friends and family bring their campers to my place rather than campgrounds.

Motorcycling.....uh.....this is the only year I have slowed down, but that is from business changes more than anything. The weather here is nicer than that of Florida for riding. The roads, the views, lesser traffic, no love bugs, mountain elevations, the curves lesser humidity, year round riding and no fire ants. We get continued upper 90F temperatures, but we can go ride in the shade of the back roads and the cooler mountain elevations. Did I mention the curves?

What am I doing? We don't need increased traffic here.....go to Florida, picnic on the beach, drive with the blue hairs, drink lots of fluids, live in airconditioning, and get season passes for Disney World. Florida has one of the largest populations of sheeple.

Retired at 43.....sheeese!! What is this country coming to?!!
