I hope.. It's spur of the moment, I'm leaving now with no plans. Heading to Indy to nap at my brothers then, probably going down I-95. Not sure where I'm staying, but i feel like i need to go! Something i have always wanted to see and i got the chance to do it now!..

If your along the way, hit me up on the BRAN. I won't do much stopping on the way down, but maybe on the way up!

Hope to keep the rubber side down!!

Mission aborted. Wife called and did more research then me just saying " HEY, I'm going to Florida" All locations to watch are sold out. I also didn't know Obama was going to be there. I just don't think I have enough time to get there before security checks and all BS..

If I'm going to do it, I wanna be in the best location possible and Titasville is too far away to go 20 hours.

Grrr. I guess The Slimey Crud will do!

I went to the last mission, I watched it from titusville, it was on my birthday too, best birthday ever, it was incredible,

I highly recommend going if you got the ability to do so, you won't regret it, I'm 7 hours from there here in south carolina. I do reccomend to get there early in the morning to find a spot to park.

lift_off

This was my view from 10 miles away, well with a sony 14MB digital camera with 7x optical zoom and a bunch of digital zoom.

I was across the street from here:
1203 Riverside Dr, Titusville, Florida

and here is the booster seperation, the shuttle is 65 miles up with this occurs, not bad for a 150 dollar point and shoot camera

booster

Yeah, i really should have done some more planning i guess. I didn't realize they are expecting 750,000 people there. The normal is up too 500,000. Thats about 400,000 more then i ever expected to be there.

Maybe it was a good thing i didn't go.

I left with a light rain. 1/2 mile from home i hit a HUGE opossum with both tires, about lost it. Got to the next stop light and my front tire slide with just a SLIGHT touch of the front break at about 5-10 mph. Got to the gas station to fill up when the wife called and filled me in on the news i should have known before i left. On the way back i hit a damn bird. WTF? I have never hit anything larger then a chipmunk on the road, let alone a damn bird..

I guess someone(besides my wife) didn't want me to go.

The closest a civilian can get is about six miles on the Banana River. There are no really bad seats for this thing. I lived near Tampa, 125 miles away, viewing them was great from there even. We watched it on TV and about forty seconds into the flight we stepped outside looking to the East. They were even more awesome at night. When there were no clouds we could always see the boosters separate.

I watched the Challenger tragedy from my work place in Tampa. Most of central Florida has good viewing on clear days.

We made the trek to the launch sight probably about six times over the years. If I recall at least half were delayed so we ended up watching from home a day or two later. The sound of the rocket splitting the air is pretty incredible, as well as the exhaust and steam plumb at the pad. If you ended up twenty miles away it would be a great view, but if the weather does not cooperate they usually postpone, which can leave you hanging after a long ride to get there. However, if you do get to see it that close, it is definitely worth it.

I never got to be there for an Apollo launch, but some of my friends who were said they made the shuttle look and sound small. It must have been REALLY awesome!

For all you Space Heads out there especially the Shuttle type, there is a book that is a MUST READ!

It's called Riding Rockets. Just check Amazon, it will NOT disappoint.

Those folks are cut from a different bolt than most.

Pratt tested the saturn 5 engines here when I was growing up a pillar of fire miles into the sky straight up there was no direction they could go and not set the surrounding woods and state wildlife areas on fire.

No probs.
When I lived in Titusville I used to
watch the engines start on t.v. then
watch the rest from the roof of the house.

My Mother-in-law lives in a condo on the shore in Cocoa Beach. They watch from the roof deck and have a great view.

Penny has seen shuttle launches, but the one time I was there for a launch, it was a comm satellite going up.

Not HUGE like the Shuttle launches, but still cool as all hell!

It gets crazy crowded in Cocoa Beach for the launches, so if you go - take a bike.

Looks like it may have been a good thing I didn't go as now I'm stuck in Kenosha with a bad stator or VM. Id rather be stranded in Buell country then BFE..
