One thing I've always liked about being a transmission line contractor . . . I don't care HOW you generate the power . . . you ALWAYS have to move it.

I've never seen more work in the last 42 years I've been doing this.

I have notice that the transmission lines coming out of wind farms that take up huge tracts of land are dwarfed by the transmission lines that come out of a small nuclear plant. That simple fact tells me plenty.

solar and wind power..... not ready for prime-time. If it doesnt make energy less expensive and therefore provide a competitive economic edge then what's the point? Having perfectly clean air or a low carbon footprint isn't going to put food on the table.

Sifo-
The typical wind turbines are 1 to 1.5MW, the typical coal or nuke is 500-1,000MW. One of the problems that utilities are having with the wind farms is that there isn't enough transmission available for the output. And then the greenies fight any new transmission lines.

If the enviormentalists were really concerned about the enviornment, they would promote closing the old coal plants and build new super-critical boilers. But instead they fight any new plants. They are more against progress than they are about 'saving' the enviornment.

I've seen those, just not typical, yet.
