I know there's some New Yorkers here somewhere. Can anyone recommend a bike friendly lot within walking distance of Terminal 5? That's W 56th between 11th and 12th. Yeah, I know, just about every street in that area has free parking. I'd just be willing to pay a few bucks to come back and find everything the way I left it.

Bring more than a "few" bucks. Plenty of parking lots around, none cheap, none promise to defend your bike against attacks.

That being said, I haven't had a problem parking on a busy street around Manhattan. Risky though.

I'll **try** to look around that area and scout bike parking today.

Google Maps shows parking lots at 57th between 11th and 12th and another one at 59th between 11th and 12th.

There are tons of west side parking lots and garages. The garages may be more secure, but you would need to find one where YOU can park it and be sure it will be well out of the way and not moved.
There are open lots, and there are also more enclosed lots, where, for example, there's parking in a vacant lot between buildings, so you get entry/exit usually two streets (say, 56th and 57th), with building walls bounding the sides.

I used to work on 43rd at 8th avenue, and if I needed to drive, I would park my car over between 10th and 11th avenues.

If you can arrive early enough, it will give you time to ride up and down a few blocks and scope out your options - you will find plenty of possible parking lots/garages to choose from.

I park my bike at a motorcycle only parking garage called Rising Wolf Garage:

Unfortunately George, I do not think this would work out for your situation. If you think you might be interested, pm me and I can give you details and show you around.

Wow, Rising Wolf is like your own personal garage with all the goodies. Yeah, that would be a long walk from E 9th to W 56th. I've got four weeks to find something yet, figured I could get some good opinions between now and then. All input is welcome, thanks.

Ended up at Central Parking at the BMW building on 11th between 57th and 58th. Inside garage below street level, let you park yourself, online coupons. Easy block and a half walk to Terminal 5. All in all I would recommend it for secure parking at a good price for NYC.
