...I advise strongly against trying to outrun the police in Vidor!

A motorcycle officer in Dickenson, TX, that's pretty close to Galveston, TX, just had an accident on a police Busa last week. I believe he is out of critical condition. He did not remember what happened but it is reported he rear-ended a car and went over the bars. That was the first I heard of the local police using these bikes. Thanks for the picture Roadthing, I wanted to see what they looked like.

I've heard of many police agencies using Busa's or other confiscated bikes, and more than one incident of an officer getting hurt through wrecking the bike.

My guess is that in "the heat of the moment" they fall back on their moto training and experience with the big police bikes, forgetting that the Busa (or whatever superbike has been roped into duty) is very different from a power/weight perspective.

Usually though, I thought those bikes were used more for show than anything else.... from a LE standpoint.

The cop on the 'Busa . . would scare me a lot less than that picture.

I'm just saying . . .

I guess I have to watch it when I go to Beaumont because I go threw vidor all the time since Beaumont is the closest place to me with a buell dealer.

Two: PM me if you want to get together. Being either retired or unemployed (I'm not sure which just yet) I have plenty of time to visit!

I remember reading about some places getting Busas for police bike a few years back.
Interesting idea, wonder how the officers like them compared to the Bimmers, HDs etc
(dont think of it in a fun/haul ass way, but more of a being-on-it-all-day kind of way)

Oklahoma Highway Patrol has been using Busas for the past 5 years. It started with an '04 taken in a drug bust, and was used primarily to attract attention and raise awareness at various motorcycle safety events. Over the past few years, OHP has made sportbike specific training available for their moto officers and now has 2 of the bikes in their fleet.

Just went to an event they were at last week. Personally, I spent a lot more time looking over the local PD's R1200 RT than I did the statie's Busa.

Tim: I'm hoping to make it. I'll be on the Road Pig, my S2 is still in pieces in my shop. New cases are in, but my motor guy hasn't put it together yet.

It'll take me a couple or three days to get there, though--us old guys can't roll the miles like you do!

My uncle bought a 'Busa. He put bags on it and called it a touring bike.
He lives on Martha's Vineyard where the highest speed limit is 50 : )

One thing that surprised me (Other than he didn't kill himself) is that it overheats if idling in summer traffic.
I would have thought that those huge radiators and fans could keep up with idling.

I'm surprised that more departments don't adopt 'Busas and Connies for their fleets.

I can't imagine sitting on a busa 8+ hours a day everyday. I'd need something much more upright, or I'd switch to a car...it just wouldn't be worth it. A Connie would be a little better but not enough to make me want to ride around in traffic all day on one.
Around here the bike of choice is the Beemer b/c its water cooled and the air cooled HD bikes in the summer can be brutal if you're not moving very fast.
