So my internet explorer and firefox have gone buggy. When i google search something and click on the results it redirects me to some ad webpage that has nothing to do with the page i clicked on. Every webpage does that unless I click on the "cached" link. I have run a virus scan with imunet protect but I am considering something a little better than that program. I am in the process of uninstalling and reinstalling firefox to try that but woud appreciate advice.

Sounds like your browsers were hijacked. Run a scan with "Malwarebytes Antimalware", once your clean you can restore your browser settings to the defaults and try again.

Check out the new Internet Explorer 9, it has safeguards to prevent this from happening in the future.

Opera is another good choice, just a little odd.

seems like you might have a redirect virus (malware)

combofix seems to work well, i have not used this yet because i have not ran into this problem personally but people i have talked to say it works well. be sure to read the tutorial if you go this route.
also from what i understand there are alot of anti virus programs that wont pick this up because of the way it works.

Probably just a hijacked Hosts file.
