I really would like to go to HC this year but I'm also an avid space junkie and I don't think I can miss the last shuttle launch. I'd like to prod some of my fellow BWers for some Cape Canaveral info so I can lay it out for the wife.

A. How expensive is the CC area?

B. Besides viewing the launch, what else is there to do down there?

C. Anyone live near that area that would be willing to eat dinner and talk about some Buells or space related stuff?

Thanks!

I visited CC last year. I don't know what there is to do around there except go to the Kennedy Space Center. It's cool, make sure you take the tour. Orlando is'nt far from there. Obviously there are tons of amusement parks around there if you are into that.

Orlando isn't far. Daytona isn't far - they have a great Corvette musuem there right near the trackm, if I remember right. There's the Kennedy Space tour, but if you try to go on a launch day they won't let you in. Get the tour if you can. If it's a launch day you'll be diverted to the Astronaut Hall of Fame - still a great facility and you can watch the launch from there as well.

As Badrap said, Orlando isn't far, either, so you have Disney, Universal and MGM if you want. I was just a kid last time we stayed anywhere "in town", but I believe the Lake Buena Vista area is more affordable than staying in the parks. Not sure about hotele near the space center... I have a feeling they have the market flooded in the Buena Vista area and you'll be able to find a better deal there, though.

I've twice seen a shuttle sitting on the pad ready to light off, but schedules and weather have kept me from seeing a launch in person.

Are you gonna ride down or take a plane for vacation? I was thinking of riding down,... just thinking about it.

Digital,
Not sure yet... I have surgery on my right knee next week to repair or remove my meniscus and try to repair the injury to my kneecap. I would LOVE to ride down, my wife can ride also on her XB12Scg. We'll just have to see about child care for our kiddo. That and how much range of motion my knee has in it at that time.

If we take the kiddo, we'll prolly drive and I'll use some of my Choice Hotel's points on a room for a week or two.

My main focus will be the shuttle launch and hopefully a tour of the space port. I wonder if active duty members get any discounts/passes or other benefits?

Thanks for the information guys. I'd love to head back to HC this year but the shuttle launch is a once in a lifetime thing for me.
