So, I am starting to get geared up for my first track day, and I definitely do not want to rent a suit. I am thinking that there has to be plenty of people who have bought suits, went to one track day, got scared, and now have a suit laying around. How do I go about finding one of these deals? Also boots!

Craig's list.

You may also want to check out Spartan Leathers, pricing being what they are you may not care about used leathers. I wouldn't bother with used boots, you can get a new pair of Axo cheap enough that you probably won't save much money with used boots. I have these and they are pretty nice, especially since they are a little wider inside than many others:

if you need a half size you should probably go up to the nearest whole size and add a nice gel liner inside to take up the room, helps remove some of the vibrations. or go down to the next smaller size and use a very thing sock or sock liner but this is more of a risk since you may not be able to shed the size far enough to fit. Filling up extra room is an easier choice.

There is a consignment store in Long Beach, CA that might have what you need. don't know if their online store is working yet. but the url is yellowdevilgear.com
You might check it out or give her a call.

Bought 4-5 different sets of leathers for my son and I over the years, got all on eBay or CL. All for under 125. A nice Vanson suit for my son for 95 and a Kushitani for me on CL for 115. Boots are plentiful and cheap on eBay.

Why bother with used suits? I picked up a 1 piece leather Frank Thomas suit at Cyclegear for $299 last year. It sucks as a commuting suit, but I think it will do fine for trackdays.

Some people have more disposable income than others.

Why throw away money when others already have? Wouldn't it be nice to have a nice Dianese suit for the cost of that Frank Thomas, or for less even? Vanson's are close to a thousand. I don't know what Kushitani cost new, but What If you you can put down $85 for a twice worn Frank Thomas?

The $215 difference makes A LOT of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, even expensive ones on whole grain bread with organic peanut butter and jelly!

You might check with the track or local sanctioning body (up here in the thawing/soggy NW: WMRRA). The forums/classifieds usually have a nice selection of gear, equipment and parts/bodywork takeoffs, etc.

motorcyclecloseouts.com has some new suits for around 300. I've purchased from them before and have no complaints.

And that money saved can go to some tires or a trackday-- Buggles, I was so jealous of my son's suit,a really gorgeous one piece Vanson!
But he weighs about 125 and I am right in the middle of average at 175 so more demand--thus higher prices--for my size.
And Kushitani sure not cheap!

This is where I need guidance, I don't know what brands are good, and what brands to run away from...

Not that easy to name brands - since most offshore brands are made in China - many at the same factory.

Dainese, Alpinestars, RS Taichi, all made in China. Their top of the line are made in Italy or Japan but generally NOT on the used market.

Bates, Z Custom, Syed, SOME Vanson, Barnacle Bill's are all good.

Something to consider - $250 is about average cost for alteration and cleaning. WELL WORTH the money to end up with a "custom fit" suit.

Loose fitting suits might be comfy for riding long distances but My first get-off on the track was wearing loose-fitting used Syed leathers and while they held up, I got a MAJOR twistie burn in my arm where they rotated and pinched.

My current set is Z Custom (Adolph is local here)

Also, most track day operators and ALL racing organizations have bulletin boards and can once in a while have some good deals.
