I have become very cautious of riding with people I don't know. I was gassing up after riding one of my favorite stretches of road when a single rider pulled into the gas station. We greeted each other and he was very complimentary of my Buell. He asked where I was headed and asked if he could ride back into town with me. I figured it was ok and we would be more visible riding together. Everything seemed to be going well until it was time for me to exit the freeway to head home. I pulled up next to him and gave a wave to let him know I was breaking away. I was surprised when he exited with me and it became very clear he was planning to follow me all the way to my house. Luckily about a block from my house we encountered a female rider stopped at a light and the guy pulled in front of me so he could pull up next to her. I was able to hang back enough to make a right turn at the next intersection after he had already gone through. He may not of had ill intentions but my gut feeling was he was up to no good.

Jon,
I would agree with you on the non-pursuit - besides, cops can travel faster by radio than any biker.

Firstbuell, ever see the Australian movie 'Stone'? Great, riding officer infiltrates biker gang flick. Good riding/chase sequences without canned motorcycle noises, real low sides, real bikes from back in the day.
I've personaly built some undercover bikes for the PD here. Both blinged out rice rockets and Hardley Davidsins. Usually used by drug or auto theft units. Is someone in the group doing something bad, the rest don't know about? Or perhaps related / involved with someone who does? The police aren't idiots. They targeted someone in that group for reason.

I'll ride with most anyone, so long as I can ride behind them. I know I'm the limiting factor on the Buell. My sportster's ground/bank clearance and brakes limit me. I'm not that good anymore ("the older I get, the better I was" syndrome) I dont heal as fast (if at all) anymore, roads are full of distracted fools... my comfort zone shrinks with each passing decade. I look back, and am amazed I survived some of the foolishness I perpetrated.

I hate riding with anyone. I just can't enjoy myself if I'm not riding alone. Like Slaughter says, I will meet you there. I just rode 20 lousy miles from my place to the NYC IMS with my buddy Spider in January. It was a disaster. The roads were awfully iced up and really needed to be "read" by the rider. Having to keep track of others and such just takes the fun out of it, for me anyway.

I'm kinda with skinstains, I really enjoy solo rides.
Sometimes 1 other person, but only a select few of folks.

I ride alone too. I just prefer it that way. Otherwise, I'm at the back of the pack. I'm with Skinstains: I'll meet ya there!

I like riding with what's left of the 3%ers, I think there are like five of us that still ride together.
I've known them for about 8 years now and feel really comfortable with them.
When we ride there isn't any ego (which in my experience is usually the problem with "group rides") so if one of us (usually myself) is feeling slow, it's no problem at all.
We'll wait at an intersection or something.
I don't really feel as safe when I ride solo, especially after seeing Matt go off a cliff in front of me, in a freak accident.
If he had been alone, he might have never gotten the help he needed.
It's probably pretty difficult to climb up from where he landed with a broken ankle.

I feel more comfortable riding alone for many reasons. 1 is no matter how many times a group says ride your own ride down inside the competitive me forces me to sometimes ride out of my comfort zone or I feel like I am being judged so I get a bit nervous (one of the two.) Another is when I am alone I don't have to worry about a racing ticket on top of a speeding ticket (has happened to me before) Alone I can push my self or back off all I want. Alone I don't have to worry some one else making a mistake in front of me or behind me or me making a mistake and collecting us in what would either not be a wreck or would not be a two people wreck.

I like riding with 1-2 people. THATS IT. I feel safer alone, but then again i don't have awesome roads to travel.

I get excited when i find a road with ONE good corner, then have to turn around and hit it 5 more times.

When I'm riding with someone new, i always opt for the rear.

sometimes its nice to have some company when stopping for " pie and a cuppa joe". maybe even talk about the road traveled . but if you all can't fit in one booth then maybe to many on the ride. seems like things shared always best with good friends .

I ride alone a lot but I do enjoy riding with a select group of a few like minded riders. I often get out with members of the Windy City Buell Club and have a great time. The riders are very experienced, so they can be depended on. I typically will not ride with a group of more than 6 or 8 people. If I do, I will ride the back to check out the riding style of the unknowns. Much safer that way.

Another +1 with Skinstains.

I'm too paranoid with another rider around me.
