my wifes xb has a fair bit of "stiction" in the front brake lever. it's just rather choppy. almost squeaky, but no squeak, if that makes sense. I've cleaned and greased the pivot pin to no effect.

while were at it, how is the Magura hydraulic clutch? I think she would like that a lot as she is a tiny lady and the xb clutch wears on her hands a lot.

You might also want to pull the caliper off and scrub the pots with a toothbrush and warm, soapy water.

The pistons on the caliper might be gummed up a bit.

I don't have experience with that clutch, but another alternative is Muller. They make a kit for the XB that's supposed to reduce clutch pull effort.

I have felt the lever on that clutch from American Sport Bike. I think it would fix your problem. It has an easy pull. I have yet to ride one though.

Trade it in on a newer one.

Like others said: remove caliper, carefully squeeze lever to poke pistons out a little more. Scrub that black ring off the pistons. Keep working with it until when you squeeze the lever, all the pistons move about the same amount.

Depending on where the 'sticking' is, it might be the master cylinder itself. My brake lever got 'sticky' too but the lever pivot was fine, the seal on the m/c piston was coming apart and causing it to catch. Ordered a m/c rebuild kit and it's perfect now.

If you take the brake lever off and look at the piston in the Master cylinder where the lever hits, there might be a small indentation that will cause the lever to bind a little. It would happen on Terri's '08 Ss. I would rotate the piston in the bore 90° and all would be well for a few months. Ultimately, either the Master cylinder will need to be rebuilt or replaced.
