I just wanted to brag - It was a lifelong dream of mine to drive on the autobahn.

I was in holland for about 3 weeks on work related trip and one weekend rented a crappy ford ka (all they had) and drove 4 hrs to the nurburgring. Sadly, norschlife was closed so I couldnt drive it.

I still got to see some amazing scenery and topped that little Ford Ka out the entire stretch of autobahn for 2 hrs straight.

On another note: Amsterdam is effin CRAZY.

So how fast does a Ford Ka go? I got to do the Austrian autobahn on a Honda CBF600 in 2008. Only got up to 130 MPH.

Its fun, huh?
I took a trip to Germany last year....wait, two years ago, two septembers ago. Whatever.
I got screwed on my car rental (F you SIXT!) and ended up with a 2L 3series bimmer. Nice car, but no power.
Was a goal to do three things on the trip (among seeing one of my best friends)
-eat a belgian waffle in belgium
-drive on the autobahn
-drive on the Ring
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The car topped at approx 135mph before I had to start slowing down again for traffic or reduced speed limit

ZT - congrats man. Like I said, I know its a great thing, especially for us 'Mericans.
Have a good time and safe trip back home

Since getting here back in Sept. Driving the Autobahn is routine now.

I probably manage that trip 4 or 5 times a year now, it used to be every day when I lived near there!

Unfortunately late in 2010 the EU got together and agreed that speeding anywhere in Europe impacts anyone living in Europe so although it's still OK on unrestricted autobahns if you do it on a restricted one they can take your license (if you are a European)...which is a change from previous years where you just paid a fine.

Still, unrestricted autobahns are fun, last year (when riding from the UK to Italy) we were "cruising" at 130MPH for most of the trip with occassional burst to see whose bike had the highest top end.

Far as I know Jules from the classes I took and talking with the German the unrestricted parts in Germany are still just that. Now, if you crash going faster than 130KMH then your insurance will most likely deny the claim, but you can go faster.

If you crash on the Autobahn you probably won't be worrying about vehicle insurance.

I drove it 2-up on a boxer twin in '03 but only went around 90mph from Duesseldorf to Belgium (the Ardennes).

Try driving the autobahn in a duce and half army truck with the beemers and mb's going by you a hundred miles mph faster than you! Fun,fun.

Haven't had that fun yet Old.

Funny thing, where my Einfahrt/Ausfahrt there's a no restriction zone. Hm, might play on the 1125R there someday. We'll see.

Sorry about the late reply, i've been neck deep in work since getting back.

It was amazing. Ford Ka topped out at 170kph, downhill with a tailwind. I didnt let off of the accelerator for almost 30 minutes straight. :-).

I will be going back again when the track is open and renting a faster car. then maybe a bike.

And I'll be staying away from the space cakes.

Yes, it is really fun to ride over the unrestricted parts of a 3-track-Autobahn with a fast motorcycle.

But is no more fun, if a truck with 51 mph is changing on your track straight before you, if you want to fly at the middle track with 150mph and on the left track is coming a sport-car with 190mph from behind...

I must admit, that our autobahns are the main reason, I have bought a full-fairing for my 1125R. ; )
