Clueless HD salesman gives a guy a "2011" Buell brochure, and asks other salesman when they are getting some more Buells in:

D'oh. You're not logged in or don't have permission to do this. Probably:

1. You're not logged in. Login below.
2. Or you don't have permission. Did you try to edit one of Nachtflug's posts?
3. Is your account awaiting activation? That would mean the system sent an email that is probably stuck in your spam folder.

I don't get to laugh along??? Why are you being mean to me???

ADV can be pretty crass forum. If you read down a ways, a good pissing match develops.

I have a token membership there, same name. I find it to be entirely too heavy on KTM, BMW fan boy to make it much worth while. Maybe when I get the Ural I will find a niche for them.

but I did add my .02 to stir the pot.

Have the same name over there as well. I'll pop in every once in a while, but mostly I'm a BWB junkie.

Sorry, I forgot the "jomama" section requires membership.

Here you go:

"and here is my story.

It is a rainy Sunday here in Southern California (climate change definitely, global warming not so much). A roommate of mine said I should check out the Buell Ulysess if I wanted a bike to tour on. I thought what the heck, so I went with him to the Harley dealer, looking to hopefully catch an unsold Ulysses or two, and perhaps the xr1200 - which just looks like a cool bike.

I was made to feel very welcome, despite my lack of eye - patch, no tatoos, and the lack of a parrot on my shoulder. I saw an xr 1200 and immediately went to look at it. I have to admit it looks cool and menacing in flat black, and the riding position is pleasingly upright and comfortable, not the recliner-clouch-waiting-for-a-herniation-to-happen positioning of some cruiser bikes. I liked it.

The salesperson walked over and was a pleasant and affable guy. He started off with asking me about my riding experience. So I tell him, have a license, have no bike. (I didn't tell him I wasn't interested in THIS bike particularly). His first reaction is "well, I hate to tell you this, but the riding position on this bike is a bit much." He then held the front and said put your feet on the pegs. I did. I told him it was very comfortable. It was. He seemed to not know what to say. So I asked him what his point was.

He then had me sit on a v-rod which was of relatively toilet-seat height, and he said that it would be better for me to learn on a bike like that, with the controls way out front, since I am a newbie. I then told him I didn't understand how pegs out front would help me control a bike and felt that the xr1200 had a very comfortable position, not extreme at all.

This guy really thinks that the xr1200 is extreme sportbike like stuff, and it's not. He interpreted my questions and the puzzled look on my face to mean I was offended or thought he was suggesting I couldn't handle it, and then began apologizing profusely. I tried to explain I wasn't offended, that I just really didn't understand him.

I didn't want to act like a jerk, so I asked him what he would suggest. He then suggested an 883 Harley Sportster, which was tiny, had controls way the heck out in front, and was about the height of a footstool. I told him "no" and said I am really not a cruiser person.

He then said I must be a Buell person, but they don't have any in stock. He got me what he said was a 2011 Buell Catalogue and then started asking other salespeople when they will get new ones. I'm not making this up.

I left speechless.

The end. "

If you want the rest of the thread, you'll have to join up.

As a traveller, I really enjoy the ADV site. The pictures & stories written by some of the posters are just plain fantastic. A guy named Colebach has ridden across roads in Russia that would put any Alaskan adventure to shame. The riders that go down to the southern tip of South America are great reads too.

After reading what they go through shows what a bunch of pussy riders many of us are.

BTW, they have always been Ulysses supporters from what I gather.
