Eygpt is in turmoil, so they protest all over America?? DC or at the UN in NY I could understand. But towns like Austin??WTF?? Go protest in your own country!

We have enough issues right here in Tthe US. Once we get them sorted (yeah right) MAYBE I'll worry about Egypt.

Until then, booger off

The folks protesting in the US are seeking the very same armed revolution in the streets. Most aren't even Egyptian.

First Tunisia and now Egypt. It seems to me if these two rebellions/revolutions can lead to real democracies they could be big steps toward showing the rest of the Islamic world that you dont need the mullahs or sharia law to live.
It looks to me like the only three real examples for muslim countries to look to are dictators, mullahs/sharia, or chaos. None of which seem very appealing, maybe these counties will be different.

So, I'm cautiously hopeful things work out best for the people over there. I also hope we keep our fingers out of it and let them sort it out on their own. We dont need to have our nose in everyone elses business.....all it seems to do is piss off the locals and our own public (me included).

That said, I agree protesting here doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, just like Iran in 1979. Not saying it couldn't happen but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Ever since i saw the so called Americans dancing in the streets after 911, I'd just as soon put them all on a boat and send them back to the hell-hole they came from.

Let them sort out their homeland's problems. Don't bring them here.

If I recall correctly, Egypt is a democracy.
As far as protesting here; not very many other places in the world you can get away it.

Looks like they want an Islamic government in Egypt.

My mother-in-law was traveling in Egypt in September, she was studying womens rights in Islamic countries. Glad she made it back.

Egypt is a "democracy". Their current leader has been in power for 30 years.

y'all place too much merit in 'voting'
Haiti is a 'democracy'.....
and technically so was the Soviet Union.
(its just that only party members could vote, and your ballet was pre selected for you, but yes comrade, you got to 'vote')

I always loved the Iraq elections too.

Everyone shows up to vote with one person on the ballot.

>>>>Let them sort out their homeland's problems. Don't bring them here.

Gets a tad more complicated. I have this scary vision of the Islamic Brotherhood, an offshoot of the Taliban sworn to Jihad, taking power in Egypy . . . gaining control of the Suez Canal. From there, it's a hop, skip and a jump (I know it's not quite that simple) to gain control of a number of Middle East oil producing countries.

One of these groups team up with the Chinese, the same Chinese who nearly own all the outstanding U.S. debt there is, have their own nukes, stealth fighters and the capability to take out aircraft carriers . . oh yes, and a military larger than the population of the United States. . .

Likely a stretch . . . but the world order . . with the USA being the ONLY super power is about to change real quick.

. . . and we have a "neighborhood organizer" from Chicago in charge.

Again . . the great part of this has been the entertainment value . . watching Obama, Clinton and Gibbs stumble all over themselves not knowing what to say, having no clear direction or guiding principles.

Court,

I will begin worrying about the chinese stealth fighter when it can be shown to fly. Its performance envelope currently consists of ground speeds not much over 10 mph. To the best of my knowledge and some sources, they have yet to produce a functional mach+ jet engine. Current fighters are using Russian engines.

When they do fly, my guess,we will have outsourced the production to one of their factories to save money.

Probably not the right thread for it . . but I keep thinking how cool it would be if Blake were the new President of Egypt.

I was thinking about it today. Mubarek needs to go, the deal with putting his son in power has no traction.

Blake has a lot of support, well defined (agree or disagree) views, is honest as the day is long and is a big, physically imposing guy. From an appearance stand point if he had my looks, he'd had it all.

He's also bright, I think brighter perhaps than Mubarek and is a capable engineer and would understand how to be a responsible curator for the delicate artifacts.

Moving from Texas might be a bit of an adjustment but I think the conditions are similar.

I'm a little concerned about this Islamic Brotherhood that are saber rattling and have a hankerin' that Blake would put an end to that crap pronto.

Oil prices would go down, tourism would go up as Egypt hosted Buell events and . . in all candor. . it has the makin's of a perfect win-win deal.

Just sayin . .

There is a.... strain of people that just will not protest anything that can get them in actual trouble. Protest against the good guys, who won't shoot them? Oh, Yeah! But it's not simple cowardice.

It's not "speaking truth to power" if anyone can speak without fear. Except for the pc crap ( another thread full of argument alone there! ) here, you can. In Iran ( just for example ) you can't. There it WOULD be speaking truth to power, and they can't hack that.

Hence they protest here and collaborate to try and gain favor from those who actually threaten them.

It's sorta like the Stockholm Syndrome

It's not genetic, but cultural. Big cities, Coastal, not really sure how to put it. A kind of predisposition for submission.

You see, no matter what the Chris Mathews, Bill Maher, typical professional protester, hippie wannabe volunteer sign carrier and community organizer types say, they are scared to death of AQ, the Soviet Union, N. Korea, or the gang down the street.

But they have deep denial about accepting reality. See the Sheepdog thread.

Like hostages the problem isn't the bad guys threatening them with death, it's the police that are trying to save them. Damn heroes are going to get us killed!

Since their culture has dominance games of flattery and loyalty changes, the protesting/collaborating types use those games to try and please the terrorists/bad guys/dictators.

I don't share that issue with them, don't really grasp the thing emotionally, but that's what motivates all these media and political protester types. Terror and displacement?

That also explains the bias in "liberal media" against the "working stiff".

They say we are stupid, not smart and well meaning enough to get that degree in international relations or journalism, and (ethnic) studies. We join the military because we have no hope for a job, otherwise, and our patriotism is foolish and outdated. We didn't have the smarts to evade the draft ( back when there was one ) and are not the "right kind" of people. Not "old blood", or "connected" by Fraternity bonds....

( never mind that most science/engineering types could knock off the entire degree of a "soft science" like Urban and Community Studies ( chosen reverse alphabetically from RIT's BS programs ) in a week with Bawls and challenging the Finals. )

Mostly though they ( media types )couldn't change a head gasket it their lived depended on it. They drive over bridges designed by engineers whose work couldn't be comprehended because "math is hard". Built by guys who have actual job skills that don't involve PowerPoint.

We threaten their manhood by our competence at things they don't understand, and their lives depend on. So we suck.

Then again I could be wrong.

Well . . this Obama guy has a keen grasp of the obvious.

I enjoyed his statement today . . "Mubarek is coming to believe that the current situation is unsustainable".

I wonder if having a million folks mulling about outside your front door demanding your ouster played into that acute observation.

I'll tell ya . . just as you think these guys are old fashioned politics . . they come through with another stroke of genius.
