I always hear to stay off the interstates but realisticly if you want to make any kind of time its inevitable. I generally look for the side road shortcut in my trip. It helps break it up without costing you time. There are only so many hours in a day. 300 to 500 miles a day is still a lot of ground to cover if your in vacation mode. After you sleep in, eat breakfast, stop for lunch, take in the scenery, eat supper, and hit up the hot tub at the hotel...

Just sayin, the interstate isnt all bad, but try to dip off of it for a short jaunt everyday.

Depends where you are. If you're west of the Mississippi, interstates just mean more traffic and more cops. Backroads are lightly traveled and have speed limits nearly as high as the 'big' roads.

On the east coast, taking secondary roads means a town every 4 miles if you're lucky, and the interstates do make much better time.

You might want to get a sun pass for all the tolls in FL, and you really want to leave Miami,FL at about 2 in the morning going to the keys.I have been to the Keys alot and that is the best time to go and not get in a bunch of traffic because when you are on the causeway you can not change lanes, and their is a lot of fun to be had in the Keys
