A buddy is leading the PGA tour in California today and I'm excited as the dickens for him.

Hits the ball further than about anyone who's ever played the game . . has had some great rounds, shot a 60 a while back, and is leading for the first time.

Fingers crossed!

Once a week when I can. Playing to a 10 right now. Hope your buddy can hang in there today. Ticket to the masters if he wins!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed . . I was eager to see how he'd fare after surgery forced him off the tour his first year.

He's raised the bar for both the long drive and club head speed.

His Mom and Dad and I grew up together . . his Dad was also a multi-sport standout.

His tee time is 11:15 . . . here's hoping!

Congrats and best to him.

I duffed around when I lived in Florida a few times a week for several years. When I moved to Tennessee golfing is the activity for which I traded up to corner carving on a Buell in the Smoky Mountains.

I find it easier to totally focus while on a machine leaned over in a corner with a knee out at speed, than I do in swinging a carbon fiber stick at a ball. Something about the life risking urgency of it all.

Was really pulling for Woodland. Unfortunate turn of events. Thought he had it in the bag when Vegas' tee shot went in the water on the second playoff hole.

Hahahahaha . . . I am with you! . . I was glued to the set as they went into that sudden death playoff.

Not . . however . . an altogether bad finish . . . 2nd place in the Bob Hope for a young kid. I'd say he and Vegas will both be on the "up and comers" list at this point.

His Mom is a nervous wreck . . . his folks are great people and I still love hearing Gary's dad, Dan, tell about the first time Gary beat him in golf . . .

I'll be eager to follow him the rest of the year.

Not a win, but $440K for a 2nd place tie should set him up nicely for the rest of the year...

That was pretty exciting to watch . . imagine squaring off at a ball knowing that there's $990,000 hanging on the shot. The good news is that the $440,000 2nd place ain't all bad.

I've been watching him for a couple years and he's had some amazing moments . . particularly last year at the Black Course at Bethpage.

It's going to be fun to follow him. I confess that one of the things that impresses me most is that whenever he sees my 80 year old Mother when he's home (she's a massive golf fan and her and Dad used to host a party at the family vacation home on La Quinta golf course every year at the Bob Hope when Dad was alive) he always takes time to come over and say hello to her. Like his folks he's a class act . . . I'll bet we'll be hearing more from him. I'll bet he's glad he turned down that basketball scholarship now. : )

I know his Dad doesn't ride and I'm betting he doesn't . . I think the golf borders on a 24/7 lifestyle.
