in the same boat...sort of. Got a LCP for Christmas, havent shot it yet. I've shot a LCP before though. My father got it for me as a gift, as well as two different types of ammo - one for practice, one for home/self defense. the practice is pretty standard, and other is hollowpoint. TulAmmo for the basic, Speer Gold Dot for HP My father is a CCP instructor and president of the local gun range, if he says the ammo is good then Im forced to beleive him and know it'll be safe to run through the gun without any jamming etc. In the past i've used Wolf brand for practice as well. Cheap but worked Ok, no jamming in my 9mm Beretta | ||

I put a Crimson Trace on mine. I think it shoots well enough for its size. You cannot wear gloves and shoot it...the trigger pull is so long that it will snag the glove on the way back. The trigger also will rub your finger raw unless you train yourself to use just the last pad of your index finger. I found no trouble hitting 6" targets at 30 feet. The sights are about non existent in the dark, hence the laser, but in the daylight you can frame your target well enough for what it is intended for. I liked it. I was shooting PMC jacketted for target practice and I have a spare mag with HydraShok for when I carry. The recoil is mild and it's easy to stay on target with follow up shots. | ||

I have one, it shoots okay for a small defense gun. Its NOT the gun you want to use if you need to do some snipping action though, but for a carry it is not bad. For target shooting I "think" I bought a few boxes of Independance rounds?? But not certain. I ran a box of hollow points through it but the first 2 rounds jammed. But it was the first clip ive ever ran through the gun. After a few clips of target rounds I didnt have any more jamming problems. There is NO safety which at first I didnt like, but I once had a cop friend tell me.."safety's get people killed" Well a few months later our house alarm goes off about 4 in the morning, I grab another hand gun i have and search the house. Of course my hearts going 2 million beats a minute as I turn each corner and go in 2 of the bedrooms with shut doors. It ended up being my wife left a damn window unlatched and high winds kinda worked it up (screen was intact on the exterior) anyhow, I get done searching the house, talk to the security co. when they call, go to put my gun up and realize I had left the safety on that whole time! If I had entered a room where there was a robber and he had a gun too...I'd been up shit creek without a paddle!!! But, it was a good lesson and now its the 1st thing I check on my guns with safety's. The ruger does have a long trigger pull, but in a defense situation I don't think you would even really notice. But at the range where you are taking your time and trying to aim as best as you can, it does seem like the longest pull ever. It doesnt take much distance to start getting sloppy on it though. If I need accuracy i'm gonna grab my CZ 9mm, but thats at home. The LCP fits GREAT in your pants back pocket! Every time I meet up with someone ive never met or hell, even take the dog for a walk I carry it (and no, its a good neighborhood, haha!) Over all I LOVE the LCP! Now I want to go shooting! The Crimson Trace looks awesome for them! I've been thinking about getting it, but not yet. | ||

I picked up a Ruger LCP a few months ago when i retired, great little gun for under 300 bucks. I'm using Hornady critical defense rounds.Ton's of info on this site http://elsiepeaforum.com/forum/index.php?action=forum  | ||

Thanks to everyone so far. This is my first personal hand gun that I have owned. My father and I have shot rifles, shotguns, pistols, bows, and even a sling shot as a little tike. I have a very high amount of respect for firearms of all kinds. I have been told that these LCP's will jam the first few clips and that the brand of ammo seems to matter with these guns. I am also looking in to the Crimson Trace. | ||

Guns like engines need to break in. The amount of ammo required varies by brand of firearm. Do some research and you may find you need to put maybe a few hundred rounds through it. Experiment with different ammo, and use the one that cycles most reliably for carry purposes. | ||

I have both the lcp and lcr, both are nice quality products. For me it is easy to group rounds with either. No problems with either on brake-in as well. EZ | ||

Our warehouse supervisor came in my office to show me his new "toy", which was that 380 ruger. The clip is so small and thin I thought is was a 22 lr. That gun is tiny. He bought it with a laser grip, pretty darn cool. | ||

laser on it? I'll look into this to see what it looks like and if I feel I'd like to have one on there. Big gun show coming up here in NC in just under a month, looking to get a waist holster, ankle holster, and the +1 clip to allow the pinky to rest on it. Love the gun though, feels so good in my hand. Love the fact it easily fits in my back pocket. | ||

Be sure to check out the 10 round clip. I saw it at our local Big R store. So that gives you 11 shots to play around with.  | ||

Here's my 2 cents and I may get blasted for it. A subcompact like a Ruger LCP is a close up last resort type self-defense weapon. If you can point your finger you should be able to empty a magazine from a weapon like this into center of mass from 10-15 feet away without even trying. I think a laser is unnecessary. Try using that laser at longer distances on such a short weapon. I guarantee it is going to be bouncing around unusably (is that even word?). you'd be better off looking down your sights. Sure it looks cool and may intimidate someone, but realistically it offers no/little advantage. For instance, using it at the wrong time in a low light situation is also likely to give away your position. It'll give the bad guy the perfect target at which to aim. It's a bit of a gimmick if you ask me. P.S. Nice gun. Hope you enjoy it, and it serves you well. ***this opinion does not necessarily reflect the views of many perfectly happy laser sight owners. | ||

Hybridmomentspass, I just picked up a holster kings http://holsterkings.com/ at a show here in Pa yesterday. Maybe they will be at your show. It goes inside or outside the waist band. I wasn't sure how well it would work but my 1911 is now more comfortable to wear than my Keltec. For $20 it is worth a try. I'm still looking for an IWB that keeps the weapon from rubbing my skin in the summer when I don't want to wear a second shirt tucked in. Small gun-definitely get the clip extention. | ||

The laser grip would be strictly for target practice on the LCP. In a fly or die situation it wouldn't help at all. The LCP is not the gun to use to hit a target very far off. It doesn't take much distance to get sloppy. But at the range the laser would be fun to play with. But not $150 worth of fun ( hence the reason I don't have one, haha ) | ||

I'm looking at one of these for my first pistol - I do like them, but the reason I want this over a better "range gun" is because someone at work is getting rid of one (they don't carry, so the gun is no fun for them to shoot). I think I can get a good price on it. THe gun isn't perfect, but there isn't really anything out that I'm in love with. I'd really rather have a 9mm, single action with manual safety. The new LC9 looks nice, but manual safety with DAO trigger seems silly to me. The Taurus 709 fits the bill, but quality seems to be hit or miss. And of course, there is no 9mm under $1000 that can match these little .380s in size/weight. | ||

After I posted last month I was at my dad's place and we all brought out the guns we had on us (sounds kind of funny, huh?) and my brother had just picked one up. I liked it. It's small enough for any pocket or a holster and if you're carrying you're probably only going to use it (hopefully you will never need to) at close range anyway. He didn't have any problem with break-in but I'd run a couple hundred rounds through anyway. I'm looking to get a S&W bodyguard 38 for the warden as she has trouble pulling back a slide. |
