Hard to believe that when I graduated wanted to stay in MI & work for one of the Big 3 only slightly less than I wanted to go to heaven.

Fortunately I was only a B student

There was a ride report on ADVrider last year showing some similar photos. IIRC, the guy found the former Packard factory and took photos around it. Looks like much of Detroit is one big, creepy, place.

Edit- found the thread; yes, it was the old Packard plant. Unfortunately, all the dude's photos have been deleted. There are several videos on youtube showing the place though:

The really tragic part is that the policies that made Detroit what it is today are alive and growing in California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey.

Looks like Gary, IN.

I understand that Detroit was the back drop for many scenes in the Nation Geographic show Aftermath: Population Zero.

A once proud city. I'm glad my family moved from there when I was 4.

I dont discriminate against US car companies just the ones letting the UAW build cars. Acorn itself may as well be building them as far as Iam concerned.

Detroit Inc. bent us over and took advantage off us in the 70's and 80's paving the way for import cars.

It wasn't just the cars that killed Detroit. It was the governmental policies of the city and state that ruined Detroit and Michigan.

When the UAW stops supporting candidates that seek to undermine the Constitution and destroy the United States, I'll buy American again.

Are you talking about the Toyotas from Tennesse, or or the Chevies from Mexico?

I have ,grew up around 7 mile and Evergreen. Father is retired from Detroit PD he was rookie on the job during the riots in "67". I was always proud of my birth place. My dad was just there 3 or 4 weeks ago. Said it looks like a war zone about 1 out of 3 homes burnt down or boarded up. Very Upsetting to me...

I've been a huge supporter of Ford, own 100% American cars, motorcycles and scooters.

I went to order a 2011 Ford F-150 with the new Eco-Boost motor and had a less than delightful experience with Ford. I'll be dealing with their customer service folks but am less than optimistic.

Not a big deal one way or the other . . . We've filled out paperwork and the Germans are ready, willing and able to fill the need American car makers should be able to.

The history . . over the last 5 years. . . of the American Automobile Industry could serve as the Cliff Notes for what's wrong with both American Manufacturing and the results when Government tries to assume the role that should rightfully rest with the market.

They should read a bit . .

I've never owned a Ford vehicle, but I decided several years ago that when the Lions, who are owned by the Ford family, win the superbowl, I'll buy one.

^^^ Hahaha!! Well played, sir. And court, are you saying that the dealership gave you problems? Or the truck? Are you still going with the f-150? Because I'm pretty sure the Germans don't have any trucks to be heard of. lol

Born and raised in the "D" .. decided the it was not home after coming home on leave and going downtown to the fox .. leaving the theater and waiting in a line of cars to get back on the freeway .. a man walked out a small dive bar and pulled out a sawed off and just started firing over the cars .. if he had decided to fire into the cars .. I was the car directly in front of him. Changed me.

True and if you know the federal government is going to skim 35% right off the top why would you stay here?

Or we could just not whine about it and adapt.

I've spent the past several months working on die cast dies for a Hyundai V6.

thanks for the post court .. have had both good and bad with dealers.. it's all about finding the right dealer and then, if your really, really lucky or you were buying a buell, there is someone like you that can help with the issues.

The world really needs more people like you and Erik.

the interview with Erik is very thought provoking, especial given the date.

From what I can see, GM made a HUGE mistake ditching Saab and Saturn. Corporate nepotism and union greed run amok.
